Issue: Some files simply will not play on a Plex Client, this has been duplicated across web player, Windows Client, and Android Client. However, I can play the files themselves over the network or on the server itself with no issue. Not sure of what the issue itself could be. Any ideas?
Can you please recreate the problem, making certain DEBUG logging is enabled but VERBOSE logging is disabled first.
Try to play those which will not play.
As soon as you’ve gotten a few, collect the logs

Where’s your transcoder temp directory? Is it on the network?

Wherever it is, the mount must support Posix file locking (which the resident OS provides but most network mounts do not unless enabled.)
Some of the EAE audio transcodes work, others do not so it’s not the codec itself.
Also, out of space in the transcode temp ?
I have no idea where the temp encode is, where should I put it?
Plex Media Server Logs_2018-08-01_02-39-53.zip (3.9 MB)
Changed the transcode temp location, still failing.
you can put the transcoder temp back to default (empty). It’s not the difficulty.
You can also turn off IPv6 (settings - server - network), it provides nothing
It looks like PMS hasn’t had time to analyze the video yet.

Sorry, I should have clarified what I need. I need the “media” part … The codec info and rates for audio, video, and subtitles
s12e01.txt (3.9 KB)
Here’s the mediainfo output
I’m looking at your logs. What is / why is PMS pointing to /media
?
Is/was your transcoder temp or PMS Library
directory on a network share?
If so, File locking (required for the transcoder’s audio codec) will not work.
/media/Enterprise_4/Transcode/Sessions/plex-transcode-v0a84rmiya70asnrso6tetm0-1bef73cb-407b-4cd0-8918-935ecc5b7428/init-stream1.m4s
Also, which client? I can’t find its identification
That’s one of my drives, it was originally on my SSD, and I swapped to one of my NTFS drives, but I switched it back, not sure why it’s trying to go there.
And I’m using the web client. I’ll try triggering it on my phone too. I can never get it to crash, it just sits there loading.
Plays on my phone, fails on the web client.
Which browser? Have you tried other browsers?
Does the browser have any JS-based plug-ins ?
Bone stock Firefox, Chrome, Edge, and it’s been tried on Ubuntu, Windows, and ChromeOS.
Let’s bypass the bundled web client and use the hosted client.
It still runs in your browser and locally.
https://app.plex.tv/desktop
I do not expect you’ll be able to play with the hosted app either. Do not be surprised it if also fails. It failing is actually expected. This is because browsers can’t handle eac3 but Apple and other phones can natively.
What it will confirm for us is your transcoder temp.

Where is the transcoder temp directory? “I/O error” indicates it isn’t where it thinks.
Is this a VM where you’ve placed something over the LAN or the transcoder temp itself is over the LAN?
Transcoder Temp is set to default, no VM, nothing over LAN. It’s bizarre, since it plays some of my other files just fine. Plex Media Server Logs_2018-08-01_23-46-59.zip (4.2 MB)
Let’s go out on a limb.
Plex doesn’t use IPv6 outside the LAN. Not everything on the LAN can support V6 yet either.
- Disable IPv6 in your network adapter
- Settings - Server - Network - Disable IPv6
That’s part.
What gets me is “I/O error” That’s your OS telling you where you’re writing the temp space to (tmpfs) is invalid, as if you have a disk going bad.
