Plex Windows buffers on direct play but Plex Linux works just fine

Server Version#: 1.29.0.6244
Player Version#: 1.55.0.3278-c6164b3c

On the Windows Player, the bandwidth speed is capped at 5mbps while on the Linux Player which I run on the same machine because I dualboot windows and linux, it’s uncapped.

Q: What is the bitrate of the video?

Also, check the Plex Windows player settings. Make sure the remote quality is set to Maximum.

The Windows graph looks normal for streaming a roughly 5 Mbps video.

Look at the bandwidth graph when the media first starts playing. That is when you will see a data burst, as the player’s buffer is initially filled.

Both are tested on the same video running at 7.4mbps at 960p. The issue persists regardless of the video resolution/bitrate as long as it’s above 720p. The remote quality is set to maximum and they are both direct playing.

In both of your graphs, the bandwidth is remote bandwidth. The limit is likely being imposed by the server and perhaps it has certain IP addresses which are exempt from WAN bandwidth enforcement. Does your machine have different IP addresses for the two OSes where one is exempt and the other is not?

For the record, the code which does the buffering and caching is the same across all platforms.
