Plex wont connect at all to my nas or removte server its weeks now of fiddling

Hi,

This is driving me mental i love plex and i cant access it.

The problem started after i tried adding access to a second server which is remote and running plex, took lots of messing and clearly i messed something i shouldn’t have and messing but it worked for a bit then after a while i think i set both to 32400 internal and external now it cannot find either server, i cant use plex and haven’t been able to for week, i have uninstalled an reinstalled but still nothing.

Its driving me nuts i should have come here sooner, i am capable of basic stuff i just need to know what to delete to get it to reset the server list or some5thing, it cant find my local server when its running it just doesn’t make sense (installed on Synology)

I lo9gin direct to local server and it can’t find itself, whats happening

Please please help i wan plex back i love it.

Come-on Ninja’s just a bit of advise even to reset it or something i wan plex up and running again tonight without having to delete gigs of data.

I login locally using ple then it says it cannot find any plex server’s (the remote one has been disabled whilst trying to figure this out), the home link is the important one… Something is very clearly screwy as i login locally ???

So its like its running but something isn’t linking stuff together or its looking in the wrong place, i cant connect on any device TV, FIRE TV, iPhone, PC, local Synology box, nothing happens, just says looking for server and do you want install plex, argggghh…

You cannot have BOTH servers on 32400 on the same lan. Devices like a Roku will go nuts trying to talk to both on the same port even though you can access each individually by IP.

I run two servers on the local lan, both are accessible from outside.

Your ‘primary’ server should be manually port forwarded to 32400 on the primary server (internal IP)
Your ‘secondary’ server should be manually port forwarded to 32401 of the secondary server (internal IP).

Be certain to specify both 32400 and 32401 (one for each) in Settings -> Server - Remote Connection.

Servers, one inside and one outside behave differently.

You connect to your outside one via the remote ssh tunnel to get it setup.

Look here and scroll down to On a Different Network https://support.plex.tv/hc/en-us/articles/200288586-Installation

When the remote is connected to your Plex account, it will show up at Plex.tv
When your local server is connected, it will also show there.

no, one was remote and running on port 4192 i think but i kept having issues with it not playing any video so i changed the outside port to 32400 i believe that’s when the problem started!!

The second server mentioned above is running on a shelll and i am unsure about how to adjust firewall setting in nix to forward to a different port, not sure what it running., anyway the point is that its offline right now but i can get my local server to play ball i don’t understand why its not working?

I cant specify any ports as i cant connect to any server?

The below is all i get where you would usual choose your server and chose to go to settings

A server could not be found. Download and install Plex Media Server, and it will appear here.

Thanks for the advice above as i did have nothing but trouble when i started using 2 servers, the firetv box wasn’t happy and the samsung tv was confused as well

For now i just want access to my 1 server on the LAN, in some shape or form, i can’t change setting or even see its there as a plex server, DNLA, samsung video station station still work fine

Please advise guys, i really just want to get this sorted tonight you wouldn’t believe the hours i have spent before posting here but i need help as far as deleting or editing files in the plex folder i am stepping in to territory unknown, although with pointers i am happy to do this i really need someone who understands what things mean.

first, Plex will always listen for port 32400.

Second, you might be running into problems with port 4192 because of potential conflict with “Quadrox” products.

Here’s the page for port 4192. http://www.speedguide.net/port.php?port=4192

I use that guide for hiding my ports in odd places.

Regarding the remote server… How can you get Shell / command line / other administrative access to it? That is the first step. Until that’s known… we can’t move forward.

If the information is best kept private, you are free to PM me… please make sure the title of your PM is clear to me

sorry the management port of the remote serv is 4103 its running using Ubuntu with Plex VM

The main issue though is getting my home server visible again.

What OS is the Ubuntu VM running on?
How are the network adapters of the VM configured for the VM? Bridge? NAT?

No idea on the above

Then please describe for me, in as much detail as you can, what the server configuration is and how Plex sit on it.

For example: Private Virtual Server in a datacenter running Ubuntu in a VM and static (or dynamic) IP addresses assigned so the base host (VM’d Ubuntu) can be administered.
