Plex Won't Install Anymore

Just Windows Defender and Super Anti-Spyware Free Edition.

At the moment it does not make sense - so only thing I can suggest is removing the super anti-spyware as windows defender is quite common and has not been seen to cause issues - whereas super anti-spyware is not one that I have come across here

I removed Super Anti-Spyware and rebooted, tried installing Plex and it still won’t work. The only thing I can think of to fix this is to reinstall Windows itself because nothing else works. And having to suffer through all of the headaches that go with that just to install one single program that won’t cooperate is not an acceptable option. I guess it’s time to dump Plex and find something else that does the same thing.

you could try a windows repair through an elevated sfc /scannow

Did you try Revo Uninstaller ? https://www.revouninstaller.com/revo_uninstaller_free_download.html

Did you try Revo Uninstaller ? Download Revo Uninstaller Freeware - Free and Full Download

I just tried Revo Uninstaller and it removed Plex with a success message and then showed registry entries it found to remove and I cleared all of that and rebooted. When I tried to install Plex again this time the installation finished, I clicked the “Launch” button and the installation window disappeared.

But then I got a pop up prompt that read: “The code execution cannot proceed because VCRUNTIME140.dll was not found. Reinstalling the program may fix this problem.”

And Plex will not load. But this time the Plex folder IS present in Program Files (x86) and also in the Start Menu. So this seems to be some progress from before but still not working. I don’t know how to replace the VCRUNTIME140.dll and need instruction please.

Plex Media Server needs VC++ 2015 Redistributable and on windows 10 it should all be there and Plex Media Server would try to install one - hence my question about vcredist and dd_ logs

you can download it from here
Plex Media Server uses the x86 version (the 32-bit one) - vc_redist.x86.exe
Select x86 version
https://my.visualstudio.com/Downloads?pid=2082

it may be worth running sfc /scannow anyway
See https://support.microsoft.com/en-gb/help/929833/use-the-system-file-checker-tool-to-repair-missing-or-corrupted-system

I did the “sfc /scannow” and it found and fixed corrupted files.

I then used Revo Uninstaller to remove Plex and ALL versions of Microsoft Visual C++ Redistributable that were on my machine. I had versions for 2005, 2008 and 2015, removed them all. I then used Revo to scan for leftover files, folders and registry items and removed everything (except for the Plex Media Folder in AppData/Local which contains all my metadata and placeholders saved) then I rebooted my computer.

After this I downloaded a fresh copy of the plex installer and checked to make sure it had a Plex Inc digital signature. Ran the installer which installed fresh copies of Plex Media Server and Microsoft Visual C++ Redistributable, clicked launch and it loaded the program, now Plex finally works! After three days of stress trying to figure this out this issue is finally solved!

I want to personally thank sa2000 whose help was absolutely crucial and completely invaluable to me in correcting this issue. I NEVER would have figured this out on my own without your help. Thanks so much for keeping up with my posts, reviewing them and responding to them so quickly each step of the way. Excellent work, you have done me a great service! Now I can finally enjoy my videos and music on Plex again.

Thank You!

wow - that was not easy. Excellent news

With regards to the VC++ Redistributable - the different versions and 32-bit and 64-bit variations can all co-exist and be installed. Having removed older versions may affect some of your installed programs.

Programs may have dependencies on different versions of the VC++ xxxx Redistributable packages and so there is no harm in having lots of different versions installed.

I encoutered the same problem and I have followed your instructions sa2000.
Everything run smoothly till whrn I have launched Plex: I have been recognized with my username and psw but I get a black screen with nothing else.
The address of the page that I can read is:
http://127.0.0.1:32400/web/index.html#!/setup/b8814a1e692a0d59384d868f0f67dedf3785a951
What can I do? Thanks!

screenshot and logs from the server covering the time when this happens

The logs should be in this folder by default
%LocalAppData%\Plex Media Server\Logs
Copy out the folder and zip the copy and attach the zip in a post here together with the screenshot and time

Thank you for your answer.
Meanwhile I managed to get PSM work.
Now there is one more malfunction: when i try “Check for updates” PSM starts, ask for my type of access (I have choosen email), starts regularly but with a black PSM screen.
Therefore using the command “wrench and screw driver” on top of it I am able to get to the screen where there is “check for new version” command: I can’t activate it by clicking on it.

I am sorry I am going to ask loads of questions !

Those screenshots - they are cropped. They do not show the time or the url - i need both to relate the logs you captured

The 2nd screenshot shows that you have successfully accessed server settings - how did you get to that from a blank black screen?

So need to know what url gave the blank screen ? and I need the logs for the time

What did you click on to get a blank screen? And was it through http://127.0.0.1:32400/web ?

What browser are you using? Have you tried different browsers

The logs I have are for these times
Oct 07, 2018 21:54 to 23:05
Oct 08, 2018 08:54 to 23:24
Oct 09, 2018 09:12. to 16;27

What security software / firewall software are you running?
And are you blocking any external IP addresses?

Are you going through a proxy ? vpn ?
Can you check windows system setting: internet Options, connections, LAN Settings, Proxy

This does not look right. As if we are getting the wrong response back from plex back-end systems - which may be firewall/proxy related

Just want clarification of what you meant by

I encoutered the same problem and I have followed your instructions

which problem? which instructions?

Thank you very much for your kind answer.

Before sending you all those JPGs and ZIP files, I have tried once more to uninstall and reinstall PSM: now PSM runs properly!

Best regards.
