Plex won't pull all my Media onto my server

I’m having a similar issue to a lot of people and can’t figure it out at all. for example i have all 10 season of American horror story but plex only pulls through the first 6, they are all named in the same format. some TV series show and others don’t, it wont pull stranger things at all for example and again its named in the same way. i’m only using 1 drive its an 8tb WD cloud duo NAS i’d say its only pulling about 40% of my data to my server.

example of naming path as it is on the duo is as follows:

\plex\shared tv shows\Stranger Things\Season 04\Stranger Things (2022) - s04ep01

anyone got any other suggestions?

Hello again boss,

Progress is being made, it found stranger things season 4, i’ll have a play with the other series on there and see how many it pulls, be back soon with hopefully a MASSIVE hug and a beer for you LOL.

Okay so far so good  its now found all 10 season of AHS, and its found Hawkeye (i think i jsut accidentally deleted ST because it came up as a completely different program LOL try again on that one)

any tips for missing films? for example 12 rounds 2 and 3 show but the original 12 rounds does not, am i doing something wrong with the format there too?

I couldn’t tell, as I don’t know your folder organization and file names

The rules are all documented here: https://support.plex.tv/articles/categories/your-media/naming-your-movie-media-files/

So the filing system was imported from my old Cloud, could it be that they are in subsidiary folders?

for example: plex\shared movies\action\12 rounds (2009)

but its the same path for the 2nd and 3rd in the trilogy

am I just being SUPER special here? LOL

That doesn’t look too far off. (unless the release years are wrong)

Are these mp4 files? These can have embedded metadata. Depending on where these files come from (and which software was used to produce them) they can contain utter nonsense in their meta tags.
And that can throw off the matching process, unless you either clean those meta tags out or tell Plex to ingore them.

Inspect the plex media info of the parts which do show up in your library.
Is the first part perhaps included as a different file version of one of the later parts?

So, i’ll use this example (because it bugs me LOL)

\This PC\Natflix(Z:)\Plex\Shared Movies\Kids\102 Dalmatians (shows)

\This PC\Natflix(Z:)\Plex\Shared Movies\Kids\101 Dalmatians (does not show)

They are both avi. files

im lost here LOL

Always include the release year in round parentheses. This is the absolute minimum.
Particularly if the title starts with numbers.

I urge you to put every movie into its own subfolder, named after the same pattern.
This is very important if you use arbitrary subfolders, like the above Kids\ (if the Plex library is actually pointed at Shared Movies\)
This will also speed up library scans and general library browsing in large collections.

If Plex has already mismatched a certain movie, you might have to perform the Plex Dance to make it forget the wrong match.

that’s a LOT of subfolders i’ll have to make… the old cloud was 4tb…and FULL LOL

I’ll have a bit more of a play with it using your pointers and see how it goes, if i have any more issues i’ll be sure to come back and annoy you some more LOL

Thanks for the help so far

It can be automated. Take a look at Filebot or Tiny Media Manager.

For tv shows you can also use FREE TV EPISODE RENAMER (Rename My TV Series 2)

Each of these can be a giant time saver.

I also would recommend that you use something like Filebot. If even comes with it’s own Plex setting that makes it even easier: Plex Naming Schemes - FileBot
