Plex won't start

Plex suddenly stopped working yesterday and I can’t figure out what’s happening. I have reinstalled Plex and that works fine, but as soon as I start it, it runs for a few seconds and stops. When it is up, I can’t connect to it either. I’ve tried connecting from a Mac and a PC and from numerous browsers and I can’t get to it. I’ve tried replacing the database following the instructions on this site and have had no luck with that. I don’t use the NAS for anything else except as a backup for my PC and Mac. I’ve run out of ideas, other than just uploading my 20TB collection to the cloud, wiping the NAS, downloading it, and starting over again from a clean install, Any ideas?

Let me know if there are specific logs I should upload. There were more than 75 logs so I couldn’t upload them all.

@bparone

Open FileStation

Navigate to PlexMediaServer/AppData/Plex Media Server

Right-Click “Logs” → “Compress to Logs.zip”

Download the ZIP

Upload it here. It’ll fit (about 4 MB)

emphasized text

That’s what I did, but I can’t attach a file in the forum, only paste text. Am I missing something?

I found it.

Let me get a workaround

I tried the drag and drop but it will only allow 5 at a time. I’m on a Mac and there is no arrow to upload anything.
Plex Crash Uploader.1.log (1.5 KB)
Plex Crash Uploader.2.log (1.5 KB)
Plex Crash Uploader.3.log (1.5 KB)
Plex Crash Uploader.4.log (1.5 KB)
Plex Crash Uploader.5.log (1.5 KB)

Now it won’t let me upload any more.

Those won’t help. Crash reports (where the crash data went) don’t tell us what failed.

If I open a PM, can you upload your logs to google drive or something and share the link like I get the forum admin to fix your account?

I uploaded them to OneDrive.

Got them… you can remove now.

ERROR - Database corruption: sqlite3_statement_backend::prepare: file is not a database for SQL: PRAGMA cache_size=2000

@bparone

I got it

Mar 13, 2023 16:01:16.341 [0x7fbd7dd7e0d0] ERROR - Database corruption: sqlite3_statement_backend::prepare: file is not a database for SQL: PRAGMA cache_size=2000

Something has obliterated your database.

Did the machine shut off abruptly?

Would you mind doing the following?

  1. Open Filestation

  2. Navigate to PlexMediaServer/AppData/Plex Media Server/Plug-in Support/Databases

  3. Take a screenshot of the database files and sizes there so I can figure out what’s happening ?

I did see that and replaced it with a backup just recently.

I did accidentally unplug it when I was digging around under my desk, installing a UPS ironically, However, it was working fine that evening and the following day.

There’s something in the header which must be damaged now.

What bothers me is that you have no recent backup

That tells me PMS couldn’t generate one for quite some time (some degree of damage in there).

How good are you with the command line?

Really? I’ve been backing up to OneDrive and getting alerts every few days telling me it was successful (see image from my phone below).

Not great with command line but not terrible.

Oh, you have them setup to backup to another directory ?

I wish PMS would allow me to know this (instead of looking dumb). Sorry

With PMS stopped, Can you copy down the two files.

  1. com.plexapp.plugins.library.db
  2. com.plexapp.plugins.library.blobs.db

into a directory somewhere ?

Before pushing them as live, I’d like to check them for completeness.

No worries. I’ve been backing them up to cloud storage, only since recently though, just in case anything happens to the NAS.

I’ve uploaded the backup files below.

I just learned how to and fixed your account so you can now upload larger logs. (Up to the global 30 MB limit)

Nice one. Thanks

If you look at the link you gave me.

Do you have a com.plexapp.plugins.library.db (plus -shm and -wal) ?

It’s all in there.
