Plex Won't Update For Me

Hi Folks - I’m not sure what is happening exactly, but this message from my logs indicates Plex can’t seem to connect to the server though it works fine on my mobile & desktop. It just won’t do the software updates it has routinely done for the last 7 years. It says it’s updating, but it really isn’t and every time I come back in I get the update is available signal. Any thoughts would be very much appreciated. Thanks very much. - John

[HttpClient/HCl#413] HTTP error requesting GET http://169.254.31.49:50755/ed5862ab-dfce-4ffb-9a07-cb55224e9ea1.xml (7, Couldn’t connect to server) (Failed to connect to 169.254.31.49 port 50755 after 0 ms: Couldn’t connect to server)

169.254.x.x addresses are self assigned IPs not the IP that would have been assigned by your router’s DHCP.

You might just need to restart your computer and/or router. Could be something like a bad ethernet cable.

I’m having the exact same problem. And to suggest that all I need is a restart is somewhat insulting. I believe it has something to do with plex, because I have changed nothing and it all of a sudden won’t update when it has updated fine for years.

The computer will create it’s own self assigned IP regardless if Plex is installed on it or not if it cannot get a proper IP from router

Just because you did not change anything does not mean your router is not having issues, which happens all the time, or your ISP changed something which also happens all the time.

Have you looked to self you are getting a self assigned IP? You may be having a completely different cause of problem. Which may not even be OP’s cause but I don’t know.

If you refuse to do the bare minimum in troubleshooting then we likely cannot help you. We would only be throwing out random guesses.

If you are on Windows 7 or 8 then we dropped support for that in April which we announced in March. The OP appeared to be on 10 so did not bring it up previously

okay yes i am running the server on a windows 7 computer, so I guess that is the problem after all. thanks for your help.
