I have been using plex for a few years now and love it. It was the reason I bought a couple of Roku players. But when I found out it was coming out for the Xbox one, I was pumped. I signed up for Plex pass and upgraded my server.
But then I started to notice random files would not play on my Xbox one. No errors, just a black screen.
Initially I thought they were bad files, but there were so many. So I started to test the files on my Roku players and the files played no problem. Then I went back to my old way of streaming files based on this article (which is what I did before the Plex app for Xbox one was available)
Please provide PMS logs on when you try to play these files on your XB1.
Indeed, also wouldn't hurt to provide the info for the file you are trying to play. Maybe there is something in common between them that isn't being handled right.
It sounds like you have a custom plex profile for the Xbox One. I experienced this issue and I previously had setup both a DNLA and an Xbox One profile for Plex.
The fix, for me, was to delete the custom profiles and run the Plex installer again. Choose 'repair' from the Plex Installer and it will install the Xbox profile that works with the app.
Well ok then. I will try that again when I get home. Before I run the installer (repair), should I delete the file that the tutorial above told me to create?
I would move the file to another folder (ex, C:\Plex Profile Backups\) so that you have a backup of it. It should be removed from the Plex subfolders though.
I used to use Plex with the Bubble UPnP workaround. When the Plex app released, I would get a black screen with everything I played (from a library of mostly MKV files). Once I deleted the custom profile for Xbox One, everything played.
