Black screen when trying to play any media from server. Also missing one of my libraries

When I open any video from my libraries (movies or tv) it does not play the video, it simply gives me a black screen.

I have tried hard resetting my xbox one, uninstalling plex, and logging in and out of plex.

I do have the exact same issue. It shows the menu, but does not start to play.

Edit: Fixed it by deleting a custom Xbox one Profile I´ve added a few weeks ago.

I also had a custom xbox one profile. I deleted it, restarted the media server, and it still doesnt' work

You probably need to delete the profile and re-install (choose repair) the media server, this inserts a new Xbox one profile. Worked for me :)

For people who don't know you can find the profiles in the installation folder for Plex which is likely to be here: "C:\Program Files (x86)\Plex\Plex Media Server\Resources\Profile"

Under here you should find "Xbox One.xml"

It seems that an upgrade of Plex Media Server doesn't overwrite a previously manually created profile (XML file). This then means the media server doesn't know all the formats that the Xbox One with Plex App is really capable of playing, this causes black screens when trying to play some files. You can check whether it is the old one or a new one by looking at the date of the file, they should all be the same. I found mine to be dated many months ago when I first started playing with the Xbox One and video streaming.

In order to get the profile back you delete the old XML file for Xbox One and re-install / repair the existing installation and then you will have working videos (fingers crossed).

I'm having the same issue. I have plex server installed on my readynas.  I found that movies I have that have AAC audio play, but movies that have DTS, etc only give me a black screen. Also when I go to the plex.tv on my PC and launch the server, it says there is a problem playing this content when I try to play the movie in the browser. I have no issue playing the same movie on my PC directly connected to my nas box. I am at a loss since I have seen that others are able to play their DTS movies with no issue. Am I missing a setting some where?

Yup, the app now uses the profile named 'Xbox one.xml' - so please make sure you don't have a custom one there, and you've got a fresh install of 0.9.10.3 - which includes the updated profile.

I have the exact same problem. The same videos that show a black screen in the Plex app work when I fling them to the Video App via the Plex workaround I've been using over the past several months. My Plex server also shows these files as "playing" on the Xbox One when trying to view them via the Plex app.

That did the trick! Thank you!!!!!

I too am having the same black screen issues with certain files. I have PMS installed on Ubuntu 14.04 trusty, where would i find the XML file that needs to be removed? I did a default install no custom options.

Thanks for all the help.

P.S. It seems to give the black screen with only files that have MP3 audio.

Default Ubuntu locations are here...

/usr/lib/plexmediaserver/Resources/Profiles

You could have also put a custom Xbox One profile in...

~/Library/Application Support/Plex Media Server/Profiles
