I know this has been said before but really this does need to be an option. Lots of folks will never run a server hence the reason why they’ll never spent 119 bucks for Plex Pass just to get Plexamp. This really needs to be an option and it also opens another revenue point for Plex. Like another has mentioned these folks that will never spent the 119 just for the Plex Pass to get Plexamp but 14.95 for a lifetime access to Plexamp alone sound reasonable and a monthly option for 1.99 sounds good as well. This option has tons of benefits and no downfalls so it really needs to be an option.
PlexAmp and a lot of its own features like Sonic Adventure, Guest DJ and Mixes for You are tied to Plex Pass features for Music Libraries. I don’t think the PlexAmp itself should be standalone and cheaper like you’re suggesting. Besides, the most basic functionality is already added to the Plex clients for everyone else to use who don’t want to pay for Plex Pass.
Additionally, where it stands as of now, PlexAmp is the most essential gem aka Plex PERK that we all have right now that sits as a consolation prize for all the gutting of previous Plex Services and Features that Plex Corp have killed along the way.
I don’t think proposing GIVING additional money away, willingly, is on my to do list considering what features they gutted.
As Plex Pass beneficiaries we no longer have:
- Plugins (should have stayed)
- Podcasts (should have stayed)
- Arcade/Gaming
- VR
- Plex Cloud
- Photo Sync (should have stayed)
- Plex News
- Plex Webshows
A couple of things that would make it more sensible is if Plex did launch an Audiobook type library and enhance its functionality of music libraries, extending its usefulness for the Classical genre and officially add multiple artists support. Last but not least, get rid the 24 hour playlist limitation. Then perhaps it can be launched as a standalone app on its very own.

There’s already an existing suggestion thread discussing the option to have Plexamp as a separate purchase, not requiring a Plex Pass membership. I suggest you comment/vote in that thread in order to help avoid distracting or cannibalizing votes.
