Plexamp Android Auto: When losing wifi only Downloads section shows

Have noticed recently that when I attempt to use Plexamp on Android Auto after leaving my house, I can only view the Downloads menu in Android Auto, as if the Plexamp app thinks I no longer have any connection (even though I then connect to 5g). The only thing that seems to fix this is playing a song from my phone using signal.

Post Plexamp logs so we might have an idea of what’s going on. It’s designed to reload Android Auto when connectivity is regained.

Sure. Attached.

This even just happened a little bit ago. At around 12:57pm (today) I got in my car. I then accessed the menu in android auto. It continued to just show Download screen for several minutes. The only thing that brought back the actual online menus was accessing them on my phone (and not Android Auto).

After another week of this the behavior is pretty repeatable for me:

If I connect to car via wifi and then Wi-Fi signal is lost, only the download screen will appear. The only way to make normal (online) menus reappear is to access Plexamp on my phone (and not Android Auto). This continues regardless of how long I have regained 5g signal.

I can confirm I have the same issue. Every time I get in my car, I have to open my plexamp app on my phone for it to load on my car screen.

If a song is queued/playing it will actually play music, but the plexamp menus don’t show up until I open the app on the phone and it loads the content.

@elan anything helpful in my log? Or is something else needed to recreate the issue.

Checking in on this again @elan

@elan looks like we have multiple users, threads, and logs showing that this phenmomen isn’t just routine user error. Do you have any response? Are we looking into why this is happening? Don’t mean to be terse but I’ve now responded several times over the past few weeks and sure feels like this problem is being ignored.

Confirmed, I use Plexamp a few times in the car, but lately opening the app from AA shows the song paused and wanting to go back to the main menu only the download section and the shuffle item appear.

Same issue here as well.

@elan any further commentary on this issue? Thanks.

I’m also experiencing this issue all of the sudden.

Same here…

This is not an isolated problem. There are multiple threads in the plexamp Reddit. I couldn’t figure out how to get a link from within the app.

@elan humbly asking you to take more of a look at this. There are indeed multiple threads describing the same issue.

Sorry everyone, been a busy Fall over here (or Spring, for those southern hemispherites).

Looking back at the only set of logs I see (logs >> begging), I see this:

The app will display the Downloads tab only when it thinks it’s offline (which makes sense, right?) However, it looks like it only spent a couple of seconds in this state.

Looking at the home screen, it looks like it reloaded as well in the timeframe:

Sep 30, 2024 12:58:15.984 [Javascript] INFO - Discovery: Are we offline? 0 hubs, network is 0 => offline: true.
Sep 30, 2024 12:59:15.710 [Javascript] INFO - Discovery: Are we offline? 10 hubs, network is 0 => offline: true.

Looking at the car logs shows an issue:

Sep 30, 2024 12:58:15.902 [Javascript] INFO - Car: Going offline for loss of network.
Sep 30, 2024 13:00:33.648 [Javascript] INFO - Car: We have network now, and home screen loaded.

It loses network at the same time as everything else, but doesn’t appear to regain it until a few minutes laster. This part of the app looks at a debounced network state (to avoid glitching), and it appears that this is the root cause of the issue:

Sep 30, 2024 12:58:15.901 [Javascript] INFO - App: Debounced network type changed to, 0
Sep 30, 2024 13:00:33.633 [Javascript] INFO - App: Debounced network type changed to, 1

The issue is that we’re using the normal system timers to do the debounce, and not the special native ones we created. The system timers don’t work with the app in the background.

Thanks for coming to my TED Talk, this will be fixed in the next release.
