Plexamp auto-play is awesome

Seriously. Thank you for implementing auto-play with a focus on album listening.

Some ideas for potential enhancements:

  1. Switch to Related Album mode after latest* release for artist
When playing a release where it is the only release in the library for an artist, auto-play switches to Related Album mode, if at least one related release has been identified, then switches back to Next Album mode.
This behaviour could be extended to kick in after the latest release for an artist has been queued.
    Use cases:
    - Where a library contains only two releases for an artist.
    - Where a library contains many releases for an artist who’s style has evolved markedly over time.

  2. Add to queue after current release
When invoking Add to Queue for a release with an auto-queued release playing, the added release is currently inserted after the current playing track, breaking the current queued release.
Ideally the added release would be inserted after the last track of the current release.
If the user intent is to destroy the current release, we have Play and Play Next actions available.

  3. One release per release group
Where a library contains multiple releases for a release group only one release, preferably the earliest, should be auto-queued.

  4. Include/Exclude from auto-play by release type
Current behaviour auto-plays next release, regardless of release type.
    Examples:
    - Auto-play only album, ep.
    - Don’t auto-play single, live, broadcast.
This would obviously require updates to the library and metadata agent, but as the data is available in MusicBrainz I would hope the required changes to group releases by release type are at least planned.

  5. Exclude specific releases and/or discs
This one is potentially rather niche, but some mechanism in the library to mark specific releases and/or discs to be excluded from auto-play could be useful.
    Use cases:
    - Where an instrumental version release for a release group exists in MusicBrainz as a distinct release group.
    - Multi-disc releases where disc 2 is an instrumental version.
    - Multi-disc releases where disc 2 is an alternate language version - e.g. Opeth - In Cauda Venenum (2019).

* or earliest if Previous Album is set for Album Direction.

A big +1 on these ideas.

Thanks for writing this post saying all the suggestions I had been too lazy to get around to posting! :hugs:

Thanks for the great ideas!

Yes, they are!

Now that I understand explicit vs implicit queuing, is it possible for auto play albums to be added to the explicit queue - either via a new option or by default when “Add to Recent Plays” is enabled.

This would address idea 2 above, which catches me out far more often than I’d like.

And they’ve arrived! Very nice.

You win, first one to notice… there’s more, too

Time zone may have created an unfair advantage. I look forward to discovering the “more”.

This is really good.

Yeah. Chuffed with Album Radio thus far. I’ve noticed quite a few “sonically similar” albums that appear questionable, but on listening completely work.

Any chance Album Radio will be available to the fat controllers some time soon?

Fat controllers? :pig:

Sorry. I meant non-Plexamp client apps which can act as a controller. Primarily I’d like to have Album Radio available in web and desktop apps.
