Any update on a fix?
We don’t know why it’s broken since nothing changed on our end, so we don’t know how to fix it.
Are you not communicating with Google to determine the issue?
I am paying for Plex, I would expect a better answer than “We don’t know and we are doing nothing to figure it out”
Sorry, that’s all I can offer you at the moment. It’s not like there’s a magic hotline inside Google we can call to get more information, and it seems like the issue is resolving itself in any event.
Are you the actual founder and CTO of Plex?
How unprofessional.
I’m in the same boat where Plexamp stopped working for casting probably about a week ago. I have three Google Nest Minis and it suddenly doesn’t work from my phone (Samsung Galaxy S21). When I try, the Mini makes the bing sound like it’s connecting and then I get the error “Could not connect to player” in Plexamp.
Funny enough, I had my daughter try it a few days ago and it didn’t work on hers either (Samsung Galaxy S8) for several attempts and then it started working all of a sudden while doing nothing different. Mine still doesn’t work.
Here’s the current info on each Nest Mini:
Bedroom speaker
System firmware version: 282045
Cast firmware: 1.56.282045
Language: en-US
Office speaker
System firmware version: 282045
Cast firmware: 1.56.282045

Living room speaker
System firmware version: 309385
Cast firmware: 1.56.309385

Just like @romanodog, I can cast audio with no problem from other apps on my phone. Very strange. Fingers crossed mine fixes itself as well, or you guys can figure out what’s causing the issue.
Thanks! Logs attached.

Mine stopped being able to cast again on Plexamp app for android. Can cast on Plex app for android, and Plexamp and Plex apps for iOS.
The devices that I’m casting (and trying to cast) to are Chromecast audios and a Nest Hub. The only thing I’ve done in the past to try to rectify the situation was deleting and reinstalling Plexamp from my android phone. After doing that, it still didn’t work.
And… just like that (and others), mine’s finally working on all my Nest Minis. You don’t realize how nice casting is until you can’t! ![]()
We have an update to the Chromecast libraries we’ve moved forward in the release schedule as it seems to help with this issue. It just needs to go through some some more internal testing so we can make sure it doesn’t introduce any remote playback regressions.
One user has reported disabling ipv6 on their router may have helped in resolving this issue, interested to hear if that helps anyone else.
Mine is still working ok currently.
Ipv6 has always been disabled on my router
New update hasn’t fixed the issue on my side. It’s only happening on Android devices.
it wasn’t expected to as no change on our side broke it ![]()
Hello, I wanted to add I am not able to cast to certain Chromecast devices with Plexamp. I can cast to the same device using the Plex app on my Pixel 4a 5g. I’ll keep trying. I updated Plexamp & cleared the cache. It worked fine last week. Thanks, John
Still following this. Problem still persists for me. Only with Plexamp. All other apps cast fine.
Chiming in to say I’m experiencing the same issue. In my environment, Plex 4.87.2 is installed in a Hyper-V VM running Windows Server 2019 and has direct network access (no VLANs). I can play content using the Plex app when I’m on the same network or remote sharing, but casting to Google devices presents an endless spinning circle of progress (rather the lack thereof).
Without casting, a major convenience of all other streaming services/apps is being blocked on Plex. As a lifetime Plex Pass holder, I’m definitely interested to see how the Plex dev team responds.
With v4.6.0 we’ve upgraded the Cast libraries and this seems to resolve the issue in this thread for those who still had issues (the majority of issues seemed to resolve themselves because it seemed tied to a cloud change beyond our control).
I have the latest version of Plex. I’ve tried disabling direct play and direct stream, and checking the “alternate streaming protocol for video playback” option. Are there any known work-arounds to enable casting from Plex? If it’s something beyond your control, can you build a similar, perhaps even propretary casting feature for Plex from open source code bases?
Same issue here, still happening on 4.6.1 but hasn’t worked since I can’t recall when (I gave up trying since 4.3.0 or whatever!). Plex in-browser streams to all devices seamlessly, Plexamp on my Android phone streams without issue, Plexamp on my desktop PC doesn’t stream to anything at all.
IPv6 disabled. VPN status makes no difference. QoS setting make no difference. ‘Use Remote Connections’ enabled.
Turn off “Use remote connections” unless you know you need it.
