Can Plexamp work while having spotty or no mobile internet?

Last summer I was driving through the mountains and into National Parks with spotty or not internet available. If I started Plexamp during a period of internet connection it would continue to play even after losing internet connectivity but if I tried to start it without mobile internet it would not work. I have a lot of my music downloaded to my Android phone (but not all). Is this the expected behavior? Can I configure Plexamp and/or my server to play downloaded music during periods of no connectivity? Or can I put Plexamp into an “offline only” mode?

Settings>Advanced>Caching it so it will continue to play when loosing connectivty

if it just has no internet at all to begin with then the you would need to download what you want afaik.

In my experience this hasn’t worked. I had 5 songs cached for cellular (I just upped it to 15 to see if that helps). I believe the issue is that Plexamp will not start the playlist/queue without a connection to the server. Once it is playing it seems fine to rely on cache/pre-downloaded media when a connection is lost. But it’s been a while since I was without any internet connection at all so I cannot test it (on second thought maybe I could by putting it in airplane mode), but I’m just preparing for my next trip.

@elan would probably have a better answer. And i’m not totally clear on what you are trying to do

playlists are stored on the server. To be able to start a playlist when off line you need to download it when online which will download all the tracks on the playlist. The download option is available when long pressing on the playlist or in the contextual menu (the three dots) on the top right when in the playlist.

That is correct.

ah, thank you for the confirmation. This would be a great feature to add as I believe this prevents Plexamp from being used on airplanes or remote areas.

It does not; for those scenarios, download media to your device and play from the downloads area.

oh, so you’re saying that if I initiate the playing from the downloads tab then it will play even when I’m offline? I didn’t realize that. So if I try to play “Favorite Songs” playlist from the Home tab while offline it will not work, but if I try to play the same playlist from the Downloads tab it will work (if the playlist is downloaded beforehand of course)?

You need to download it and then you can play wherever whether or not you have connectivity.
