Plexamp downloaded music missing after phone restart

Every time I download music to my Android phone in Plexamp, they’re unavailable after I restart my phone. The Downloads screen still shows that they were downloaded and shows how much storage space they consume, but when I tap to play I receive a message that says “No items downloaded”.

I’ve been trying to use this feature since last summer, and it keeps doing this. I’ve uninstalled the app and re-installed it several times, but still have the same problem. When will the download feature be fixed?

It seems to work for most people, so the trick is figuring out what’s different with your setup. Please share debug logs after a reboot and unsuccessful play.

I’ve found the Share Logs button on the Debugging menu in the app, but I don’t know what the “share” the logs to. Can you please tell me how I can get these logs to you from the app?

You should be able to share to email, e.g. and send to elan at plex dot tv. Or share to a google drive an post a link. Etc.

When I try to share to email, nothing attaches to the email. When I try to share to Google Drive, it says “request contained no data”.

What device do you have? Did you possibly remove permissions from the app to access storage? Do you have ability to get logcat?

My phone is a moto z4 running Android 10. The app does have permission to access storage. I’m not familiar with logcat.

I just noticed something strange about the download location option in the app. I uninstalled Plexamp, restarted, then installed again. I chose the external SD card as the download location, and downloaded a few albums. After I restart the phone the option to choose the download location doesn’t even appear in the options anymore but the downloaded songs are still available and play. I download an additional album and restarted the phone and now none of the downloaded albums play.

I tried selecting the internal storage for downloads, instead of external, and the problem doesn’t occur. What might cause this to only affect external SD storage?

SD cards can be finicky and unreliable. Try swapping it out with a top brand card with decent speed rating.

Or at least clean the contacts of the card.

If Samsung isn’t a top brand of SD card, what other brand would be better? I don’t have any problems with any other apps using it for storage, such as my camera and other music apps that read music stored on that card.

Even when I’ve selected the internal storage, the option to select which storage to use disappears after a restart of the phone, but the downloads on internal storage continue to function. The only way to restore access to the option is clear storage in the app options in Android.
