Plexamp on Android downloads album but error when accessing offline

Hi All,
I have a PlexPass and latest version of Plexamp installed on a new Pixel 7 Pro, Android 14 phone.

On Android I download an album while on WiFi and Plexamp says it has downloaded. When I disconnect from 4G & WiFi and click on the (downloaded) album I get an error message “No Items Downloaded”

I think this worked with an older (Samsung) phone and older version of Plexamp.
Any Ideas on how to get this working?
(p.s. same album downloads OK and is available offline on Windows Plexamp app)

Sorry, we’d need to see Plexamp logs after attempting to download another item to be able to diagnose.

Thanks for your quick response.
Have downloaded an additional album and shared the debug logs as requesed. This is attached.
Cheers, Robin

There’s some sort of permissions issue with your storage:

Feb 06, 2024 08:56:18.905 [0x4c8fecb0] ERROR - Networking: Unable to create directory /storage/0000-0000/Android/data/tv.plex.labs.plexamp/files/Offline/16cb871ba8aba27fab92043fa3e5ffb9703e9cec6301b0cdfcc8cca74f8f40a7

Thanks for your feedback.
Seems a bit strange that I can download the same music on the full Plex app for android and it works fine offline, but the plexamp downloads do not.
Couldn’t see any permissions settings for plexamp. Is there somewhere else I should be looking on my phone?
Cheers
Robin

the two apps work completely differently so it’s not weird at all.

i don’t use android but Change app permissions on your Android phone - Google Play Help

also check the downloads setting inside Plexamp if you have external storage as you can select this as well.

Thanks again.
This is a dead end for me.
Will go back to using Spotify for our offline Van trips for the moment.

Cheers

Uhh… I’m trying to help you, Robin. Did you locate the storage permissions for the app, and if so, what did they say? What did the Plexamp setting say?

Trouble is there were no specific storage permisions for the app - so couldn’t change anything - hence the dead end.
Maybe someone else who has my type of phone may be able to chime in.

We definitely request a number of permissions, including those two around external storage. Are you using an SD card?

No SD card is available in the Pixel phone. Just internal storage.

In Plexamp’s settings, Downloads > Download Location, and make sure Internal Storage is selected.

Dont have Internal Storage option in the Downloads Settings - only options are as per screenshot below.

Ah, that actually makes sense if you don’t have external storage plugged in. Is it possible that you did in the past and selected it? I’m wondering if maybe the app got into a state where it’s selected external storage, but it’s not possible to deselect it.

We’ll see about making this work properly in the next release, for now you can try to delete app data and see if that makes things work again as it would reset settings.

I’ve verified this is indeed the issue, and we’ll fix for the next release. For now you can work around as I described above.

Thanks for that. I think it may be because my previous phone did have external storage, and when I moved to the new phone the plexamp app and some internal settings were automatically moved across.
Fixed by doing the following:

  • Removed data and cache
  • Stopped the app
  • Uninstalled the app
  • Reinstalled the app, reassociated login etc.
Now works as expected when offline.
    Thanks for your help

glad to hear! sorry for the trouble, that’s our bug.
