I have a very bad mobile connection at my office. When I use Plexamp there it drains battery of my Samsung Galaxy S8 like hell.
When I’m working from home, my mobile phone is connected to my WiFi and battery drain can’t be observed.
I think Plexamp tries to connect to my server to report which track it is playing and because of the very bad connection this is tried over and over again.
I could use my phone as heater… winter is coming soon
It is fixed for me. Thank you.
great to hear!
Unfortunately not for me. On my OnePlus 6 it seems to heat the phone up and go through the battery like crazy. It doesn’t happen all the time though. For instance, plugged into Android Auto it’s fine. I think it’s more likely if I’m playing Flac files although couldn’t be 100%
HI again,
running PlexAmp 3.2.2 on a Nexus 5 with Andorid 6.0.1 still leads into massive battery drain.
cheers
T.
We might need a bit more info than that to help troubleshoot and resolve the issue
How were you using Plexamp when you noticed the battery drain? How much battery drain did you experience, and over how long? Anything in particular you can share that might help pinpoint where the issue is?
Hi,
I see . . .
my usage is mainly in the car, hooked with bluetooth to the car stereo
usually I use the radio stations from plexamp ( style radio ) all my music is MP3 - only some rare exceptions are FLAC. I set the cache to 10 tracks on mobile
The area here has good to very good 4G coverage in general
When it comes to battery, immediately after starting plexamp it becomes No. 1 on the leaderboard of battery consumers - here it stays for the rest of the day with up 10 % of the battery usage. I use the phone normally ( calls, navigation, browsing ) - plexamp like this morning only once for some minutes during driving.
I also tested it by launching plexamp, listening to only one tune and then checked the battery leaderboard . . . yeah, pleaxamp seems to fight for the No.1 position.
cheers
Torsten
The majority of my music is in flac format. Phone gets almost too hot to hold whilst listening to music. Plexamp is top of battery use and phone cools back to normal after music is stopped. I don’t get it in the car on Android Auto although the phone is on charge then. However it’s not hot.
do you have visualizers enabled? any chance of a log after your phone gets hot?
This continues to be a problem on my Pixel 3. Current version is 3.4.0
Higher Quality Visualizers are off. I never use the visulaizer view anyhow.
Car View - Never
Keep Screen On - Off
It doesn’t matter if I listen for an hour at home, 20 mins in the car, or a one song test, PlexAmp remains active in the background and tops the battery usage list.
If I reboot my phone a little notification immediately appears telling me “Plexamp is running” as if its set to do something at startup, which is not acceptable really. I can’t interact with this notification at all to actually see what it means.
I’m so used to this that I plug it in to a power cable in the car now if I’m going to use Plexamp, or just say screw it and listen to hockey news on SiriusXM.
Any mobile listening I do is not streamed, I play from the downloaded section.
I’d also like to mention the apparent discrepancy between this setting and Plexamp’s actual behavior. I often find it difficult or impossible to dismiss Plexamps controllers. They shouldn’t be showing up there to begin with based on my settings, unless I misunderstand what that preference is for. (BTW that setting is accessed from the gear right in those controllers, so I assume Plexamp is ignoring them)
What I mean is, I try to swipe it away, am presented with a pref gear, and that pref pane is what appears. So I have no idea how to dismiss the controllers (swipe doesn’t work.) Plexamp was used over two hours ago in my car and is not currently connected to anything. I’m assuming this causes battery drain of some kind.
not quite a fair assumption.
I have a Pixel 3 as well and Plexamp has been working well for me. I have not noticed any battery drain since they fixed it a while back. Strange you are still having issues!
Since I started this thread they have added the new media controls “notification” under the quick settings in stock Android, so I think it just sits in there even when it isn’t used. If anything the annoyance is that I try to use it and if it has been a while it just closes out and I have to manually start Plexamp again to get it going.
Just downloaded the Plexamp app today and was loving it for a couple of hours, but noticed right away, that the battery was draining FAST. Just signed up for Plex Pass so I would be able to use Plexamp. I’m using a Galaxy S10, and unfortunately I don’t see how I could keep using this app due to the battery usage.
are you using visualizers? general battery drain shouldn’t be significant.
I’ve tried different settings, no visuals, everything I can think of, but plexamp is unusable on Android for any length of time. I literally watch my all day battery (galaxy s10e) drain in a couple of hours. Would love for this to be my audio solution as Plex has become my video solution.
