PlexAmp, Home User Can't Play Anything

Server - Version 1.23.6.4810
Plexamp 3.5.0 Desktop on Multiple Macs

I have a few Home Users and one of them will not actually play anything anymore. If I select a playlist and hit play, it will proceed to advance to the next track as if I was pushing the next track button repeatedly. I am unable to stop playback until it cycles through the entire playlist or I quit the app. It is only one home user that this is happening to. Also, it does NOT happen to the same user account when accessed via Plex, only PlexAmp. I have tried this account on 3 different Macs and the behavior is the same. Below is a screenshot of the server log while Plexamp is cycling through a playlist. I tried logging out of my account and log back in, but the result is the same.

Any assistance would be appreciated.

Hi @PGalati,

Is it possible you’re seeing the same issue as in this thread below?

tl;dr in server version 1.23.6, shared users need Download permission due to the way Plexamp caches ahead in the play queue.

Yes, that fixed it. I was surprised that this one user had download disabled, or in fact this user had no trouble prior to this server update. I wonder why the Plex app wasn’t affected by this as it is possible to download tracks on both desktop and mobile versions of the Plex app.

Regardless, all seems good now, thanks for the quick response.

The change to download restrictions was introduced in server version 1.23.6, so that explains why it wasn’t an issue before.

The main Plex app doesn’t cache ahead the same way Plexamp does. To the server, Plexamp caching ahead is indistinguishable from downloading

Glad you’re back up and running now!
