Hi all. Not too sure where to submit this issue. I attempted to post this to /r/plex on Reddit and kept getting an “error 500” or something of the sort. Anyhow…
I run Arch Linux and have installed Plexamp from the AUR.
Plexamp didn’t run at first because I had done several kernel updates without rebooting, and didn’t care enough to. I finally rebooted today, tested Plexamp, and it works and I enjoy it very much!
But, my Firefox had also updated and I was experiencing issues playing videos on YouTube/Twitter/etc. It was really tough to pin down – is it Firefox? My privacy addons? etc.
After trying a bunch of things within my control to change, I simply tried closing Plexamp…and it worked – the video immediately begins playing the moment that Plexamp is closed.
I then tested the same behavior on Brave. While Plexamp is open, even if it’s paused, the video won’t play. It’ll buffer, but it won’t play.
I mostly use Invidio.us to watch YouTube videos and, strangely, Invidious still works without issue while Plexamp is open. I have found some embedded Reddit videos that work as well.
The reverse is also true. If I have a YouTube video open and playing when I launch Plexamp, Plexamp will refuse to play the song even if the video is paused. It bounces between 0:00 and 0:01, back and forth, when I hit play. YouTube acts similarly – when I push play, it shows me the next frame and then freezes, and when I pause, it moves back a frame and then freezes there.
Are there any other Linux users out there who experience this same issue? Is this specific to my flavor of Linux? Is this specific to the AUR package?
Thanks.
edit – not sure why I thought Invido.us worked before. Still doesn’t work if Plexamp is open.
