The idea of bundling the volume to system volume is great but doesn’t work anymore when there are two or more programs running that are battling for audio and it’s volume. I like to have teamspeak open, talking to friends and like to listen to music in the background. Well, plexamp disqualifies itself by not letting me change volume to match it with other software.
If plexamp is running on its own, it works great the way it is.
I would like to have a way (and even if it is hacking a config json file) to give myself the option to change the volume for situations I described. Thanks.
We’re thinking about just allowing “soft” volume control so you can adjust the volume of Plexamp independently of system output. Purists can keep it at 100% and others can tweak the volume (at first likely via key-binding).
$ mpc -p 36600 volume 60
I’m sure there’s an mpc like client that talks to mpd that runs on Window but I’ve not looked. If push came to shove you could install an iOS/Android mpc client on your phone to change the volume on the host machine.
Only buggy third party software, some open source, some of it commercial. Frequently, said software will suddenly stop working and require the client software to be restarted for audio output to continue.
Suggestions on macOS discussion channels and forums leads people to helpfully remind me that “everything already has its own built-in volume control, so we don’t need a system-wide volume mixer”.
