I’m trying to use Mix Builder to play a radio based on a handful of bands. When I do add 3 or 4 bands and choose “Play Radio” I get the radio for the first band only, and each time I pick play radio it plays the same set of songs for that band. For instance I made one with Pearl Jam, Soundgarden, Alice In Chains and Mother Love Bone. It gave me Pearl Jam radio with the same songs every time. I removed the other non-PJ bands and still got PJ radio with the same songs every time.
The Mix Builder uses our Smart Shuffle on the server. This promotes highly rated/popular tracks, demotes recently played tracks, and other things like this.
So if you play e.g. the only album for a band, and then try to make a Mix Builder shuffle with it, those tracks will get pushed to the end.
If you don’t like what Smart Shuffle does you can disable it own your library advanced settings on the server.
I’m seeing the same behavior with smart shuffle turned on or off. The first band’s radio is played no matter how many I add to mix builder, and the songs are the same every time. If Pearl Jam is the first band I add, I get a certain set of songs no matter who else I add.
Just to test I added ABBA and then ACDC, Guns and Roses and Def Leppard just to see. The songs were all ABBA related when I picked Play Radio. Cleared the mix and picked the same bands and got the exact same set of songs.
This latest experiment was with smart shuffle off.
I agree, I’ve just tried this on iOS and see the same thing. Mix builder creating a radio channel with Guns N’ Roses and Frank Turner. All tracks are based off Guns N’ Roses. Swap them around and all tracks are based off Frank Turner. Obviously playing a mix jumbles them correctly, this seems to just be a radio issue.
