I read that this is intentional for performance reasons. But I also read that the devs consider lifting this restrictions later.
More than a year has passed and i wanted to see if anything has changed so far
Maybe make it opt in in the settings? I’m fine with degraded performance if I get to download more songs in return
I don’t want to ask for a specific ETA on this, but would it be possible to say where on the list it is now? Should we be expecting it anytime soon?
Optional to read, but a little info on why this one thing would make Plexamp perfect in my book.
I’d like my library to be in FLAC but it’s not quite suitable for mobile streaming and OPUS isn’t great because you can’t seek until a track is fully buffered (annoying if you want to skip the intro of a song but have a very poor signal). I’ve worked around this for now by encoding my library to AAC/.m4a which can seek once the header at the front of the file is loaded.
So, 3 possible solutions.
1.) Enabling full library downloads on Plexamp (best solution ofc).
2.) Use main plex app w/ smart playlist + downloads, but it’s nowhere near as good as Plexamp for music and generally buggier in my experience.
3.) Allow encoding on the fly to AAC instead of OPUS. I’m not sure if seeking on a track would work the same as direct playing an already encoded AAC file. If it’s like OPUS then there’s no point.
