Forgive me if this is something that could have been found by searching. My internet connection took 4 tries to simply display this page. Also forgive me for being fairly tech stupid.
I live on a boat and travel to remote locations. I use a Synology DS718 for my Plex server. I have it working well offline, but would also like to use PlexAmp on my android if that’s possible. I can access Plex media to listen to music on my phone, but it’s super annoying that my phone only plays 2-3 songs then stops unless I have my screen on. I’m hoping PlexAmp will fix this, as well as allow me to use nice features such as Super Sonic.
As far as I can tell, Plexamp needs the server to have content available outside my local network, at least initially. My current l internet connection is through a Linksys router, to a Wave WiFi extender up on my mast, and because there are no wifi signals coming from Little Corn Island Nicaragua at the time, to my cell phone. This convoluted mess does allow me to get online, but my media is not available this way. I have specified a manual public port in Plex to 32400, and created a port forwarding entry in the Linksys router for Plex Media Server also to 32400. I cannot yet find a way to set port forwarding in my Wifi extender, but I haven’t yet reached out to their tech support.
Does anyone know how to make all my various jumps to get internet play nice with Plex? Or better yet, can I skip that altogether and not need my media available outside the network and have Plexamp find my media directly from my phone over the local network?
Edit: I think I got it working. I changed my port forwarding entry on the router from Plex Media Server to simply Plex. I don’t know if that made the difference or if I had a better internet connection for a moment. Wish me luck.
