When I found out that Plexamp was made to work with Apple CarPlay, I installed PlexAmp on my iPhone 11 Pro Max. I’m able to play music on PlexAmp on my iPhone 11 with no issues. When I get in my car, attach the lighting cable to my iPhone 11, I see PlexAmp on CarPlay. I pressed PlexAmp on CarPlay and try to have it play music, nothing, it seems to time out/give up trying to load the music.
I can go to the Plex app, go to Music select my Playlist and it will play the music through CarPlay displaying the band and music title on CarPlay.
When I try to play my playlist, I get “There was a problem loading this content.”! I noticed that if I select a band to start the music and then go back to my playlist, the playlist will load and I can start playing from the playlist. I only tried that once, so I don’t know if I have to do that every time.
My playlist is quite large, it has 3 days and 1 hour of music.
Very excited about this feature - been wanting to use my Plex music library in the car for years now. Some feedback:
I have noticed that CarPlay does not work unless you allow cellular data on the app. Sort of defeats the purpose of downloading the music to your device. It keeps looking for my server and just hangs. When I enable cellular data, it works some of the time - has been crashing the app often. Also, it would be nice to be able to sort / scroll through the downloaded local files on the device by artist. It is difficult to find what I would like to hear in its present state.
Looking forward to the next update to see if any of these issues go away.
Can you show us exactly what your head unit is showing? Does anything ever display?
