Plexamp on Mac OS can't do airplay

Hello

I can’t airplay something from my Macbook to my Homepod. It seems to be a problem of Plexamp since iTunes is capable of “seeing” all my Airplay-Devices (see attached pic).

I’m on Mac OS 10.12.6 and Plexamp 3.4.3

Does the sound system preference see the airplay devices? You could try holding down the option key while clicking on the sound menu bar icon to see if the airplay devices are listed there.

Does that help?

Thanks for your help. Yes, in System Prefs I can see all devices but not in Plexamp as mentioned before… :frowning:

So if you select the airplay device from sys prefs or the volume menu pulldown while playing Plexamp, does the sound come out of the airplay speaker?

Correct me if I’m wrong… But the “Select Player” in Plexamp will not show general airplay compatible devices - only Plex devices! You cannot “stream” audio to an external device from here, only “remote control” compatible Plex players…

As PGalati says, you should be able to airplay all audio from your Mac using the volume menu pulldown.

Question I now stumble on: Why ist Airplay possible from my iDevices with that menu but not on Mac OS?

Hmm… Are you using the “Select Player” menu inside PlexAmp in your iDevice? I’m running PlexAmp on iPhone and do not see AirPlay devices there. But I’m not using any “official” AirPlay compatible devices - only RPis running Shairport-sync and the likes :-). I just guessed that that menu is for casting to compatible devices, not streaming… But I might be wrong.

Plexamp desktop macOS doesn’t support per-app AirPlay.

Plexamp iOS running on Apple Silicon does.

No current plans, sorry. AFAIK it’s fairly complex to add.

Hi all, I have the same problem, but you can use FriendlyStreaming Client on Mac Silicon to fix the problem. Just add Plex to the client and stream synchronous via AirPlay or using a Browser, also works fine!

This is really sad. Of course there a some workarounds but it would be very handy to have this feature in your original app to gain more stability and comfort using AirPlay on Mac Silicon…
