I have many songs that work fine on my Plex app on Apple TV, Windows, Mac, and Linux installs on the plex web app and PlexAmp, but on my phone I’ve noticed both the Plex and PlexAmp apps will play songs and sometimes skip sometime after the song has started. It plays successfully for a bit and plays through without skipping on all other devices so I’ve been confused by this bug.
I’ve also noticed the same songs always skip at the same exact time. As an example a song named A will always skip at 14 seconds.
I’ve tried reinstalling, clearing the cache, disabling sweet fades and all other settings that would mess with playback in the app. Plex Media Server Logs_2024-05-18_16-25-06.zip (842.4 KB)
Update: I’ve tested other apps including Spotify and tidal and don’t have this playback issue. I got another Apple phone and it’s working fine on that device though.
I know the 13 that’s having this issue has some water damage so I’m going to assume there’s some playback api that the plex/Plexamp app listens to for playback that the other apps don’t. Would be cool if this were fixed but it sounds like it could be a bit of work.
Same problem here. I have plexamp 4.10.1 an Plex server installed in my Synology nas.
Problem is that a lot of songs start at 5 seconds to the end. If a rewind that song and play it again then starts at 0:00.
I think that is like a bad bookmark saved for some songs, but still couldn’t find a solution.
On my second device I’ve now noted it start to do the same thing. I used it for longer and now more and more songs are skipping at seemingly random lengths.
I’ve identified the source of the issue. On my plex server I had “smart shuffling” enabled under library settings.
After disabling this setting it resolved my issue and none of my iOS devices are having issues. This looks to be a bug relating to smart shuffling. Thanks!
It’s what fixed my issue, but I think it may be specifically a combo of that and the iOS apps. Are you using iOS apps for playback? Because it was still working fine on my Apple TV/Linux/Windows devices
Hey, appreciate the input. I don’t have store track progress enabled in my library. The issue @adrilosan is having is different than the one I’ve described.
So coming back to this. I resolved that issue, and songs are still skipping. With or without smart shuffling. So I don’t really know the root cause of this still. Only an issue on iOS devices with music.
