Dear friends, I am trying to use the Plexamp remote control feature and it really looks promising.
Unfortunately I have encountered several times the “Could not connect to player” error.
I am currently using one Windows 10 PC, one iOS iPhone and a Mac, on the same local network and all of them running the latest Plexamp (4.0.1).
Currently I cannot connect any of them to control the iPhone, even after closing and reopening the app. On the Mac side I get the following log (excerpt)

Was just about to post that I was having similar issues. I have a MacBook Air (Fairly old so still on Big Sur), iPadPro (15.3.1) and iPhone (15.3.1)all using Plexamp 4.01. Both ways between MacBook and iPad work great. iPad and iPhone don’t even find each other. iPhone finds MacBook but won’t connect.
In my case, they all find one another but, for the time being, none connects to any other. Till a couple of hours ago Mac was happily controlling the iPhone but the PC was unable to control any other
Here’s my logs for my iPad and iPhone, couldn’t work out how to find my log for MacOS?
Anyhow, I started each app consecutively, then did a scan on each app. Once again, the iPhone and iPad couldn’t find each other. Weirdly, the Mac purportedly found my iPhone but this was actually the iPad when it successfully connected. iPad successfully connected to Mac. iphone could not connect to Mac. Hope this helps. Happy to provide Mac log when I know how to get it.
Hi,
4.0.2 shows the same problem.
I have an iPhone connected to a USB DAC and a Mac, both running Plexamp 4.0.2. I try to control the iPhone from the Mac and get the “Could not connect to the player”. Here are the logs on the iPhone side. Plexamp-Logs-2022-02-24-1.zip (212.8 KB)
Same problem here when trying to control my iPad from either Mac OS or Android phone I get the message “could not connect to player”. I can control Mac OS from Android phone however. There were no problems with the initial release of v4
Feb 24, 2022 21:31:08.067 [Javascript] ERROR - HttpServer: 500 Internal Server Error (/player/timeline/poll): Cannot convert undefined value to object
However, I can’t see to figure out how to reproduce the issue. I’ve tried connecting to iOS while it was playing something from a server, and from TIDAL, and neither of them caused that error.
This implies the issue is on the controlled side rather than the controller, so now we just need to figure out what’s different about your playback.
I assume you see the error only while something is playing? Can you narrow it any further? Does analyzing the album make any difference?
[I’ll be away all next week, so apologies if it seems like I’m not paying attention.]
There’s not a lot of stuff in here; the iPhone log shows it sending playback over to Marion's MacBook Air but that doesn’t seem to start successfully, would need that log to be able to comment further. macOS logs are in ~/Library/Logs/Plexamp.
Hi,
thank you for taking care of this issue. The reported problem happens at connection time, when I try to select the controlled device. I am never able to select the iPhone as controlled
Hope this helps, anyway I can provide you any information you may need to help
I think I have some news about this topic.
After upgrading to 4.0.3 I was experiencing the very same problem so I decided to completely uninstall Plexamp from the iPhone and reinstall it. Well, magic or not, it started working as being controlled by the Plexamp instance on the Mac. I had already tried this when upgrading from 4.0.1 to 4.0.2 but it didn’t work.
I don’t know why it worked now but the reinstallation must have done some useful cleanup, let’ s see if it is stable. I will come back with more news in case of any.
Well, yes, I agree with you. Anyway, after a couple of days of tests the remote control still works, I know this doesn’t help diagnose the fault but makes happy the part of me that wants to listen to the music
Is there anyone here still seeing this issue (specifically the Cannot convert undefined value to object error), and willing to help diagnose it? If so, DM me.
Well after trying this randomly over the last few weeks and getting the same results, today its all working flawlessly. No idea what the cause of the problem was or why it’s fixed
@elan –
I’ve updated to Plexamp 4.1.0 (I did it last week). Right after updating, I was initially able to use my iPhone to remote control Plexamp on my iMac. Then later that day, and continuing to now, I am unable to connect to my instance of Plexamp on my iMac. I get this message:.
Remote Control has worked intermittently for me (mostly not work) since February.
I am including the Plexamp log from my phone if that helps. Plexamp_ios.log (138.9 KB)
