Plexamp -> Sonos streaming(Remote Control) broken for the 2nd Tuesday in a row

Server Version#: Version 1.40.2.8312
Player Version#: Plexamp 4.10.1

Last Tuesday, and now again today, the connection between Sonos and Plexamp is broken, when casting from Plexamp → Sonos. When displaying the “cast” options, you can see the connection to your Sonos Speakers “flapping” as it continually loses it’s connection from Plex to Sonos. It self-resolved last week after about an hour. It has been down all day today. It is also broken between the Plex App and Sonos, as this is an issue with the Remote Control functionality, not the app, I would guess.

Troubleshooting done so far:

Re-Auth dance (Both on the Sonos side and Plex side)
PMS application reboot
Full server reboot
Removed Plex from Sonos, re-added
Playing plex directly through Sonos app (works, but of course all advanced Plexamp features are out of the window and you can only play pre-existing playlists. Sub-optimal.)
Restarting various Plexamp applications (Android, PC)
Router/Network restart
Contacted Sonos support and verified no errors are reaching Sonos speakers

Additional symptoms:
Songs will play for 2-5 seconds successfully, but then fail consistently after that
Plexamp app becomes unusable until you manage to stop playback on plexamp as it “flaps” continually trying to play a song and failing, resetting back to a paused state, retry the play, etc etc.
When you open the cast menu, it’s clear that the connection between Plex and Sonos is flapping as each Sonos speaker shows up successfully, but will continually switch between showing the last played song and just “Sonos”. Over and over and over. A better way of putting this is it appears that Plexamp thinks it’s connected, but Sonos has closed the connection.
Strangely, when you play from the Plex app(Vs Plexamp) I am able to continue playing music as long as I don’t choose an option on the “Disconnect” error that comes up.

I am happy to provide logs for troubleshooting, but the reality is that this likely results from a networking or auth issue between Plex and Sonos either due to a recent deployment or an existing issue. Please advise.

As a side note: It’s extremely frustrating to have to take time out of my day on a regular basis to troubleshoot issues that are outside of my control and that do not end up on your Statuspage as an acknowledge outage. The Plexamp → Sonos connection completely opened the door for me to switch to Plexamp and get rid of Spotify, but it doesn’t really feel like this is a supported feature by the Plex team and I’ve seen multiple other posts throughout the years that articulate the same thing. Bugs that have been around forever, like having to hit play 2-4x every time you want to start a new queue are still around and have been for years. Having to magically re-authorize Sonos and Plex talking to each other, on both sides, without ever getting a notification that anything has expired or an expectation of when this auth flow expires. Not to mention the amount of digging one has to do to discover for themselves how to find the pages to re-auth. And that is 80% of all the posts I see on these forums as well as other sources like reddit when people have issues streaming Plexamp → Sonos. It actively drives away users who are interested in your solution and product. Reliability isn’t as sexy as coding new features, but new features that don’t work aren’t sexy from a consumer viewpoint.

Can confirm all of this. Every single bit. Just sat down in my listening room with a glass of wine and El-P’s Fantastic Damage. Not only did I experience everything OP just said, but the Sonos app (the thing I try to avoid using on a daily basis) would not browse my Plex libraries. So playing any Plex music via Sonos is completely busted.

The Sonos experience is amazing, but their app is pure garbage. The only thing that makes it bearable is Plexamp casting. Please please fix this

Long time Plex user, new SONOS user. Specifically purchased a Plex Pass to be able to cast Plexamp to SONOS but getting the same results as above. Totally broken! Please fix otherwise no point in Plex Pass!

Same happening to me. Tried to start a playback from Plexamp macOS, Plexamp iOS and Plexamp Headless. Same behavior in all of them.
Can confirm as well that using Sonos app to access Plex works. I can also confirm that Sonos app is garbage and this is not a valid workaround.

I read in Reddit from the CEO that they are thinking about dropping Sonos support. I really hope they don’t follow through with this idea, without Sonos support Plexamp stops making sense to me.

This is very discouraging to hear… I feel the same.

And having similar issues so hoping to see someone pop in from Plex.
Since Alexa devices are also having issues maybe related?

Do you have an actual link to that comment, or are you just spreading gossip and rumours?

This is still broken, Plex Team.

Normal plex without plexamp is currently also broken as, I’m getting an unable to browse error…

I stand corrected, This now appears to be working for me sometime in the last hour. No action taken on my side.

Browing Plex through the Sonos app also appears to be broken. I get the “Unable to browse music” error. Yesterday I had to reauthorize my Plex account and that fixed it. However, same issue again today and the reauth isn’t working.

i agree, hope they don’t drop Sonos support. I have a Plexamp Headless + Sonos Port combo just in case. Those Ports are expensive so if you’re pickup one up I highly recommend a Refurbished version.

Now working for me also, no changes made from my side. Be nice to know if they identified the issue and resolved it, or is this mere luck?

And now it’s back to non-functional today. Behaviour is slightly different now with songs playing up to 30 seconds before going wonky.

The comments about Sonos being “too difficult to solve” are a bit of a headscratcher since there hasn’t been an update on the Plex side for Sonos since 2019 as far as I can tell. Seems much more like a lack of investment and support for an existing feature set.

And this particular problem seems much more indicative of poor incident management process rather than “Sonos being too difficult”. Things don’t just magically break, they break because something changed.

And now it’s working again.

No longer working for me, again.

I have this problem as well.

I have issues with casting from plexamp app on Android to my sonos five.
It takes about 30 seconds to start playing a song, then plays fine for 9 seconds then pauses for a while and plays almost fine until the end. However, this does not start the next track at the end and previous/next buttons have no effect (even during playback).
If I click a on a song on the playing queue, it does not give any feedback about my action but starts the selected song after a while.
I tried playing FLAC 44/16 and MP3 V0 and have the same behavior. My network is fast, Sonos device has excellent signal.
Plexamp app also stops showing the playing screen after a few seconds of playback and then reopens it a few seconds after.
This is really unreliable.
On the other hand, using Sonos app seems to be working but the interface and features are not as good as plexamp.
Plexamp is so great and works really well. I can even stream my FLAC files in my car with Android Auto on 4G network. So not being able to stream on a Sonos device on my own local network is frustrating.
