Hi Guys,
Everything work on mine (Mac Mini 10.8, Frodo RC2, PMS 0.9.7.7) I can browse the Netflix channel and my instant queue but can’t play any movie from Netflix. Has anyone succeeded in doing so?
Cheers,
Luca
Transcoder issue
I’m investigating, but I’m, also getting variable results from the plex Media Server transcoder. Sometimes it works sometimes it doesn’t, and this is via PleXBMC and the Plex/Web viewer. I’ll see what I can find out, but it doesn;t apepar to be a purely PleXBMC problem (well, certainly not on my set up)…
Is there any way to speed up the interface on a Raspberry Pi? It’s constantly refreshing after every menu move. The regular xbmc interface seems fairly snappy. I can get live TV faster than Plex content.
In case it helps, here is my log when launching a Netflix video http://pastebin.com/YPEgvVUL
Some of the slow downs are annoying, but an unfortunate side effect of running plexbmc as an XBMC addon. Addons do not have the capacity to remember or store data, so there is a cerytainl amount of initialisation each time it is run (which is everytime you click on an item). I've tried to minimise the amount of initialisation, but inevitabily there will be some areas where this is noticeable.
The main issue is when browsing large lists, which take a while to process - I haven't found a way to fetch, process and display in parallel. In addition any of the initial functions that use bonjour or myplex will slow down as there is extra network communnication involved.
However, the RPi has addition issues due to it's low power, memory and storage times. Certainly storage access can slow things down a fair bit (I'm not suggesting this is your problem, just talking about the RPi performance in general with PleXBMC).
I use plexbmc on a i5 laptop (windows), a revo 3610 (xbmcbuntu), a 2007 mac mini (Snow leopard) and an RPi (raspbmc) and it is only the RPi that I notice any real slow downs. Rerieving my ful movie list (1300 items) takes a good few sconds on all platform, but this is known (and the iOS client also takes a few seconds, but it's better at displaying as it processes).
However I'm always looking for ways to speed up the addon where I can.
Is anyone else having problems installing the latest quartz skin in raspbmc? Dependencies not met??
New version coming as soon as I can test the installation tonight.
Last version this year:
PleXBMC - V3.0.1 for Frodo
https://www.dropbox.com/s/witrsoopha3o2lx/plugin.video.plexbmc-v3.0.1.zip
[] Fix a few bugs to do with shelf data and old data being remembered
[] Control shelf visibility
[] Basic content filtering for Shelf (hide content based on content ratings)
Quartz V3 For Plexbmc - 0.7
https://www.dropbox.com/s/6izzi8bfg47phlq/skin.quartzV3.plexbmc-v0.7.zip
[] You can install it now
[] Merge in Quartz V3 master changes for Frodo
[] Display Plex Logo correctly if shelf is blank (i.e. nothing to show - make it clearer if there is a plexbmc error, or if you just have no items to show)
There does appear to be an issue with missing menu items in XBMC mode - which I think appeared during the merge. I haven’t fixed these yet, but it should just be a case of some visible tags going astray.
Also - seeing as the Plex client is starting to catch up, then this addon may become less relevant. At the moment a lack of a linux client means i’ll still be adding stuff and tweaking it, as I mainly use a linux client on my main TV.
Client:Raspberry Pi/Xbian 1.0a4/Frodo RC1
Server: Mac mini 2011/latest Plex Server
The skin works perfectly now thanks hippojay.
Plexbmc (3.0 or 3.0.1) still won’t open my Movies section though. I get a script error trying to open it. (worked on 2.1) My other clients [iPad/iPhone/MBP…etc] see the Movies section fine btw.
I ran into this issue as well and experimented with removing the dependency and all of the
skins work fine when it's removed. Open the zipfile and edit addon.xml.
Change:
to:
Or you can just remove it. The above line simply comments it out, in case you want to replace it later.
I've seen no ill effects from removing it or commenting it out. Everything works as expected.
Thanks for your work! I'd say that it's extremely relevant as XBMC still has a better platform for running addons in my opinion. I've got a single UI which has reliable Hulu, Amazon, Netflix (via WMC through Advanced Launcher), as well as my Plex transcoded shares across the Internet. I don't see myself making the plunge into the Plex only world... so I appreciate the development.
Hi,
I just upgraded my Raspberry Pi to Raspbmc RC2 and installed the v2.1 plugin. I’m now finding that I cannot launch any video via the addon - instead, I just get an error message stating the video cannot be played. Here’s the log output - http://pastebin.com/byZ1Z9hV
The problem seems to start with these lines:
Jan 01, 2013 14:38:32 [0x7f0f66616700] WARN - We didn't receive any data from in time, dropping connection.<br />
Jan 01, 2013 14:38:34 [0x7f0f31ffb700] DEBUG - Request: GET /video/:/transcode/segmented/stop?session=c1b24fa4-e2b3-4f43-8b15-35bd13b86591 [192.168.0.130:37633] (1 live)<br />

Jan 01, 2013 14:38:34 [0x7f0f55bd7700] DEBUG - Whacked session, 0 remaining.
Other issues I did notice is that even after signing into myplex, the server does not show up automatically. I had to configure the IP manually before I could actually browse my collection.
Any suggestions on what I should do? I'm connecting to PMS 0.9.7.7.339-5ec3b53 on Ubuntu 12.04.
avggeek, scroll up a bit & try 3.0.1.
Could you send me your xbmc.log file and ill see what's causing the problem. It's probably a character encoding issue which should be easy to fix.
Finally found that logfile, I didn’t know it was hidden lol

Caprica - ok try this one:
https://www.dropbox.com/s/soxtuo59deiveck/plugin.video.plexbmc-v3.0.2.zip
It was the sort title causing issues - which is very strange as it is fine on my install at RC1 too - perhaps a difference between windows and linux builds? (the sort title stuff was accidently left out of frodo when they were reorganising the code, so maybe they partially brought over some bits marked as linux/windows only. )
There is something strange going on, but I'm not 100% sure it's plexbmc only. I can start an encoder at low bitrates, but as a ramp up i start getting these errors. I'll need to ask the plex devs about it, to make sure I'm starting it up correctly (i.e. any recent API changes).
Thanks for the suggestion. I uninstalled 2.1, rebooted and then installed 3.0.1. Here's what I'm able to replicate:
1. Choosing Always Transcode will always trigger the error message when trying to play video.
2. Leaving the Always Transcode option off allows video to play, but there is absolutely no audio whether on a stereo track or 5.1 track. My Pi is connected to a TV, so it's configured for Stereo but that doesn't seem to help.
3. Trying to play video via AirPlay also results in zero audio, so I'm now wondering if it's a problem with Raspbmc RC2 itself :(
Hey hippojay,
First of all, thank you so much for your efforts on this, even on new years eve!
With 3.0.2 i’m seeing this error in the logs:

I’m using a remote plex server on a different network.
This error justs pops up without doing anything actually, or so it seems.

Hmmm, shelf remotely. Have you entered your myplex details?
Also, not entirely sure I tested that with myplex remotely.
