Again thanks…for lower powered devices or people that find most of the skins complex it’s the easiest skin to use in my view…I now have Movies, from my Plex server of course, ditto for my TV Shows and then Live TV on the top menu (thanks Hippojay) and then channels from my Plex Server…I’ve also create a ton of ‘favourites’ that I can add to my Movies or TV Shows for direct filters such as Unwatched, Recently added etc. and then in LiveTV I have added a favourite to X-NEWA (as I use NextPVR as my TV Server backend, thank you for sub on NextPVR and Martin for X-NEWA) that allows me to stream LiveTV to even lower powered devices such as the aTV2 for 1080i content (uses FFMPEG and VLC transcoding)…



Over all a great solution that on all my devices looks the same, is stable and most importantly is dead easy for everyone in the family to use…when you have 6x TV’s all getting their ‘stuff’ off of the one server it’s great for it to be as simple to use as possible as I don’t want to be putting our fires all the time…

Subtitles was one of the areas that had a big change - and looks like I've not fully tested the logic on all situation (it worked in my testing)

I think I see the problem - just need to tighten up the error checking.

I’ve just pushed 4.0.5 to repo. It would be nice if you merge changes so you are up-to-date.



I thought I might do some fixes afterwards, add banners and get rid of unnecessary stuff that have no use in plexbmc.

Is there anywhere I can look at the changes you’ve made? Hippo made a change for me whereby I replaced the home.xml file so that I can have Live TV in place of music on the main menu…with your changes will I be able to just copy this same home.xml over the top when it updates or would there be issues with this?



Any chance of officially supporting Live TV in your skin? :rolleyes:

I'm after better PMS integration - in ideal case, it should like as regular PMC/PHT. We'll see where this would lead us.

Where official Live TV = your home menu modification or something else ? :)

...and of course, I don't know what Hippojay has to say on this. It could be a problem if he don't want to mess with Plexbmc code :)

I have been lurking on this thread for some time and I have to say I am impressed! I believe this is going to be my future setup on my HTPCs. I want to back up Scot that the live TV on the main menu would be amazing!



I have a couple of questions about live tv in PleXBMC/Plex server configurations.


  1. Anyone with this setup, are you using the recording options in your backed on your HTPC or on your PLEX server if those are to different machines?

    1A) If on you HTPC are you recording live tv to a directory on your HTPC and treating it like a cable DVR (i.e. watch and then delete from the recordings area) or are you having a recorded show directly move to a corresponding directory and watch from PS to your plex devices?

    1B) If on a different machine, can you manage the recordings from your PleXBMC frontend?


  2. My PS is on a powerful machine in my office, and I plan on doing a couple of HTPCs with PleXBMC . I wanted to run a HD Homerun where my router is located (in closet where Antenna and internet service enters) and use this as the tv tuner for my chosen backend NextPVR.

    2A) Can I do my backend on the server and push that to the HTPCs? I know I would be limited to the number of tuners in the HDHomerun, but I can live with that.

    2B) What would be the problems if any I would have with this setup?

    2C) Am I making this setup too complicated? I am trying to make a “whole house PVR” of sorts.



    Thanks for any help. After typing this up I see that I may need to refer questions #2 to the NextPVR and homerun forums, but I will leave them there in case there is any insight.

I have a question about Quartzv3

I want to change the navigation overlay inside the skin.



I Already edited the file “ButtonFO.png” (changed color)

But the selector insides Quarzv3 dosen’t changed the way I modified it.

Do I have to edit the XML files also?

I only mean official in that currently I use Hippo’s mod’ed home.xml to have Live TV on my main menu…which will be lost each time their is an update (I assume? Also maybe if you release a new version then Hippo’s mod’ed home.xml that he did for me may longer work etc., hence would be great if this was an option that one could enable, like show or do no show Live TV on the main menu).



So when I mean official it would be good that if someone enables the Live TV option it appears on the main menu rather than embedded in channels, I personally think it’s a more important to appear on the main menu over that say of ‘pictures’, however since others might have a different opinion to me maybe and maybe if you’re concerned with width space then having a way of swapping main menu items in and out of channels as a personalisation would be ideal?

What you’re proposing is exactly what I do.


  1. I have a NextPVR backend on the same server as my Plex Media Server
  2. My folders for TV Shows, Movies and Recorded TV are separate. No use in me trying to combine them as the guide data in Australia doesn’t have Season/Episode information so Plex would miss too many shows (Plex only renders shows it can get a match on, that or you then need to use a personal folders when setting up a new folder and then you get a really long ugly file name that isn’t easy for family members to know what is what)
  3. I use XBMC Frodo on the clients with PleXBMC and Live TV enabled to my NextPVR backend. I use Quartz3 to make it appear like an aTV2 interface (pre the ugly recent GUI change) so it is totally familiar with family and friends (I have 6 rooms with TV’s all set up as clients)
  4. I have no problem streaming to each client (using Gigabit Ethernet though)
  5. I use 2x HDHomeRun’s giving me 4 totally different independent TV Streams



    Everything is perfect with the above with the exception of scheduling shows to record. An instant record works, the old way of creating a schedule works (click and record this or that from the guide) but setting a option for always recording such and such show on this channel no mater what the time, or only new episodes etc. doesn’t work from within the XBMC interface. For this I use the X-NEWA plug-in of Martin’s (http://forums.gbpvr…y.php?55-X-NEWA) that allows for a number of things, such as deleting watched programs and advanced scheduling all from the XBMC interface/remote

Does anyone find that subtitles are enabled by default even though PleXBMC has subtitles configured to ‘Plex Control’ and they’re not enabled in PMS? Other Plex clients do not have subtitles enabled by default when playing a video. Running 3.0.8 on a RPi with latest PMS

Hmm…



Something is fishy regarding recently added here. PMS serves XML that contains none of them for whatever reason, however they are showing in Plex standard client. All is fine with music albums.

You are right that the XML you sent doesn't have any movies - so it's either picking it up from somewhere else, or it's left over from a previous run.

Probably best if enable debug in plexbmc and send me over the xbmc.log file as that will have a much better tracking of where these are coming from. Also, currently the recently added and ondeck will be across all of the sections on that media server - if you want to have them per section then that'll take some time, as i'll need to associate them with a section (the data exists in teh XML, i just don;t use it).

I've said it before, but a lot of this is down to how XBMC addons work - they don't remember anything. I only process the fields I have to at the time to save time
