Hi Hippo,

Thanks for this plugin. I'm so impressed with it's performance on a RPi Raspbmc with Frodo 12.1 that i'm going to get rid of my Mac Mini client.

I'm noticing a couple of issues since 3.1.5. I've noticed this on both the RPi and Windows 7. I've not tried on OSX but can do if you need me to.

1. If i try to open an item on the TV shelf the PlexBMC plugin fails. If I then drill down in the TV directory to the same episode it will open with no problems. If I then go back to the Shelf on the same client and attempt to play again it will play fine. If i go to a different PlexBMC client with the shelf refreshed and try to play the same episode, it again fails unless i again drill down to the episode as before.

2. If i play a video from the shelf the video always starts from the beginning. If i start the video from the Movies or TV directory i am able to continue from the point to which i previously watched.

Also i was wondering if it was possible to sort the Movies by "Sort Title" rather than "Title"? My twin boys get upset that the Harry Potter movies are sorted alphabetically rather than chronologically....

Hi Hippojay

All my files are MP4 and have two audio tracks. The first is 2.0 and the second is 5.1....up until recently the latest version of PleXBMC, on my systems that have a AV5.1, I would start a movie/TV show and it would automatically detect that my system was 5.1 capable and play the 5.1 audio track. Now no matter what I do in my audio settings it will always without fail pick the 2.0 audio track. There is nothing wrong with the 5.1 audio track as I am able to select it once the video starts...

Any ideas what I could be doing wrong?

Update 1:

  1. I've of course made sure that I have 5.1 in my audio settings, using HDMI, AC3, ACC and DTS are enabled...I have tried direct and every combination I can think of for DIrect and Audio decide with no change
  2. I am sure it is something to do with PMS or PleXBMC because when I start a Live TV stream I get PCM, Dolby Digital 2.0 and 5.1 depending on the TV channel...so these settings work automatically

Update 2:

Okay, I am not sure if this is generally known however I went in to the PleXBMC options and in Playback I enabled "XBMC Control" as the option for Audio/Subtitles. I am not sure how this is going to effect my subtitles however audio is now selecting correctly.

Any ideas what changed Hippojay and if I'll now have issues with subtitles?

Why would you have subtitles issues? …and you could go to XBMC settings and set default settings for subs much like in PMS.

Well...in the PleXBMC settings I have enabled "XBMC Controlled" on the audio/subtitles rather than the detail which is "Plex Controlled"....now with Plex Controlled it would also pick the 2.0 audio track rather than the 5.1, since I've changed it to "XBMC Controlled" the audio is perfect...however since the settings says "Audio and Subtitles" I was thinking that I may get an issue with subtitles now...something I am yet to try and verify...

Hi,


“XBMC control” leaves all audio and subs up to XBMC. No intervention or manipulation. This is the same as if you played a file through XBMC library. You will have to manually select audio and subs.


“Plex control” uses the information set within the PMS to determine what audio and subtitle to select. Plex will automatically select a language and subtitle track based on the configuration - I pick these up an automatically apply them.


Why the correct track isn’t being picked? Could be ne of two things:

  1. plex is giving me the wrong info. Try checking the selected stream by choose in “select audio” off the context menu. This will dispay a list of all audio track and put a * next to the default. If this is the 2.0 track, then PMS is wrong. If it is the 5.1 then…
  2. I select the wrong track at playback time. Now thing haven’t changed in this code over the last few iterations, so perhaps mo4 files react differently or xbmc put them in a different order.


    If it’s 2 then drop me a full plexbmc log and I’ll see what’s the problem.

I am gather my issue is point 1.


When I have it set as “XBMC Control” XBMC correctly chooses the 5.1 track, if I select “Plex Control” then it always chooses the 2.0 track…I am able to manually swap the track once it has started.


Any reason I just shouldn’t use “XBMC Control”? I don’t watch too many programs with SubTitles so I am happy to manually select those when/if needed…however I much prefer to have the audio track default to 5.1 if able available and I’m using a system that is capable.

Hi Hippojay...

First of all, congrats on excellent work. This new iteration is great, covering all little details (like forcing view types for sections) that were missing. Now comes my question. I would like to usee PleXBMC with the PlexAeon skin which was available in Dharma ages. You probably do not have time for skin development and even if you do your priorities may differ. How can I develop the skin? Can you suggest any starters/pointers and how much work do you think it is for a skinning novice?

PS: I have a fair amount of software development experience but none as a skin developer.

Still no luck in getting anything beyond the listing of my PMS subcategories (see my post #1380). Can anybody help me with what I could be doing wrong?

Hey.. Awesome tool and I'm so looking forward to using it, but I'm doing something wrong. I only get content in PleXBMC at random.

I have tried the ip of my Plex Server and just GDM, and nothing seems stable. 99% of the time PleXBMC is just empty, the once in a while I can see the content and everything works awesomely :)
When I try on my android device with the official Plex app, I have no problem connecting and finding the server. There is no password and everything is on the same network/subnet.

Anybody with an idea of what i'm doing wrong?

latest version of PleXBMC with caching enabled brings plugin on par with XBMC local library speed wise. Thumbs and fanart loads almost instantly.

Wow - didn’t realise you were running off my frodo master - must be more careful with the commits in future, so I don’t introduce issues.


Glad that caching looks to be working so far - I’m looking to extend it to TV shows, season, music, channels and photo listings (can’t do movie or episodes due to the resume functionality, which would cache incorrect values).


I’m also investigating ways I can get the Helper to cache and do some of the section processing for plexbmc, so that we get up to date info, but without having to wait for it.

If you get the chance to run plexbmc with debug turned on, it will probably give me the answers I need. Had a quick look through, butI don't have any media with 2.0 and 5.1 tracks in the same language - ill see if I can create one from a DVD, but a log would really help.

I don't really want to waste your time...I've got it running on "XBMC Control" and it's working perfectly.

Hi 

Great plugin, but having some issues with the official Plex iOS App seeing the client which is running on my Raspberry Pi as a valid player

After the PleXBMC Helper starts up everything is fine and I can see the Pi as a player and i can use the remote ok,

As expected i can see the Pi when i request http://mysever:32400/clients on my Media Sever box

Then after sometime the iOS app can longer see the Pi

i get an error in my plex media sever log at the same time

Restarting the Pi and restating the iOS app fixes the issue

Do you think this could be an issue with networking, the Pi is running on a homeplug network ?
 
Or could it be a bug in The Plex Media Sever ?   Version 0.9.7.17 on Mac OS 10.8.3
 
I have also seen the Plex Client that runs on the same box as the Media Server also disappear in the remote.
 
Any help or sugestions  would be great

I'm wondering if the Netflix streaming using this Addon also works on the Raspberry Pi versions of XBMC (OpenELEC, Raspbmc etc)?

I didn’t test it specifically, but as the netflix channels are transcoded then I don’t see why not.
