Plexconnect: why are there no more updates?

Plexconnect: why are there no more updates?
Thanks…

Well, one recent update was the https support.
What do you need?

Baa thank you for your great project and for your support.
My question is: why the post “PlexConnect changelog” is closed?
I didn’t known about the https support.
Thanks again.

Oh, right. I didn’t update that post in a longer time - I will do so.
Take a look at github, there you will find the complete history.

It looks like there is the possibility of creating a regular app to do this with the AppleTV4. But I’m glad the old version still works with the AppleTV3.

Since Apple is pushing their new AppleTV they have severely dropped the price of the AppleTV3. So I picked one up for real cheap, even cheaper because it was refurbished. All I really do is stream movies To it from my iPad but I like being able to watch movies from my Plex account.

The only question I have about the old Plex connect is do I have to reset my network if I want to use any of the other AppleTV functions?

No need for resetting anything - PlexConnect’s DNS will forward requests to external hosts to the WWW infrastructure as usual, if setup correctly.

As long as I have Plexconnect running on my PC though, right?

Because the moment I stop it my Apple TV shows only “computers” and “settings”. But that should go back to normal once Plex connect starts up again?

I’ve been following the other thread about the Plex connect app, will Plex create their own app for the new Apple TV? And if they do would Plex connect be better?

Yes, you have to have PlexConnect running to provide the DNS service.

Plex Inc already has their “official” app on the AppStore - no need to wait.

PlexConnectApp better? Not sure what to answer there… I guess it’s more like “just different”. Some will like the official one, some the other. One advantage that PlexConnect might have: It’s open source, anybody can play with it, improve on it, feed back new ideas, designs, code. It could develop “crowd driven”, but that really depends on a number of factors I guess.

In the days of aTV2/3 PlexConnect has been the only choice, so that was easy.

I think you should continue, make your own Plex client. based on Plexconnect, it gives you an excuse to learn Swift which seems like useful knowledge. I hate all versions of Plex above version 4, from v5 up they changed it from a paid app to an In App Purchase. The App was originally 5 bucks, with an IAP they can boost the cost whenever they want. That’s why I prefer other clients, I use the last Plex version 4 app they ever made on my phone and iPad and they both still work great.

I’m having trouble with the Auto Start Python Service it’s not loading PlexConnect. I’ll pursue that in the other thread.

Huh? There is no version 5 for non aTV iOS devices (yet) and these statements negate each other.
