PlexConnect and Subtitles

First of all, big thanks to everyone involved with PlexConnect, you guys are doing an amazing job. In the beginning I was quite skeptical about this, because only a few videos worked and I went back to connect my Macbook Pro to the TV. Since 2 months I gave Plexconnect another shot and I have to say that 99% of the time everything works perfectly and seeing the development around the GUI (fanart etc...) PlexConnect is becoming my number 1 plex player.

There is only 1 issue which drives me crazy and is kind of a dealbreaker for me. The subtitles!

My current setup:

- Synology NAS (DS1812+) with PMS on the latest PlexPass

- Apple TV3 (Settings PlexConnect: Subtitle renderer IOS PMS)

- Most of my videos are encoded as MKV

I tried all kinds of subtitles (downloaded them seperately as file in the same folder) and nothing works, everytime I select a subtitle the CPU usage on my NAS jumps to 100% and the video starts stuttering...

I know that the ATV supports subtitles (looking at other apps on the ATV), so I wonder if there is a magic setting that I'm missing, is this a PMS issue or is this a PlexConnect issue?

Really would like some help and find a solution to my problem.

I don't even mind manually downloading the subtitles or converting them into a format so that things work. I saw that there were similar issues on the ChromeCast and Rasberry Pi, but they kind of fixed it.

PS: Is there a way to get Subliminal working on Synology with a newer version of Python?

>>Subtitle renderer IOS PMS

a - iOS does not deal with external subs

b - PMS will have to burn text into the video stream - thus doing a full transcoding job, what you NAS most likely doesn't support.

External subs (SRT) however can be rendered by PlexConnect right there on the aTV... if you would let it do its magic. :-D

Yes, I want to avoid that my PMS burns in the subtitle... Do you have a link to how I need to configure my PlexConnect so that it renders the subtitle right on the aTV?

In the settings of the hijacked app

subtitlerenderer = Auto

subtitlerenderer = Auto

Stupid me, I just figured it out myself *facepalm*

I read in other threads that the setting should be on "iOS, PMS"... That might have confused me

Thanks anyway, another happy PlexConnect user :)
