PlexConnect can't connect (ATV2 running iOS 5.0.1)

Your ATV model (2 or 3) and firmware version (found under the ATV settings > general > about > Apple TV software): ATV2, 5.0.1 (4224)

The DNS server set on the ATV (found under the ATV settings > general > network > DNS): 10.0.1.201

The device and operating system (including version number) that PlexConnect is installed on: Mac Mini, OS X 10.8.5

The local IP address of the device that PlexConnect is installed on: 10.0.1.201

The device and operating system (including version number) that the Plex media server (PMS) is installed on: 10.0.1.201

The Plex media server (PMS) version number you are running (**do not put 'latest'**): Latest (just kidding, 0.9.8.4)

The local IP address of the device that the Plex media server (PMS) is installed on: 10.0.1.201

The PlexConnect version number. If using Github source then a time and date of download (look at the creation date of the folder) and if you are using any testing branch e.g. the Elan/PlexInc one. => This is the original 0.1 release, I think.  Date stamps are June 21, 2013

The content of your 'Settings.cfg' file (if you do not have this file you are running an old version, please update):

[PlexConnect]
port_pms = 32400
enable_plexgdm = True
ip_dnsmaster = 8.8.8.8
ip_webserver = 10.0.1.201
loglevel = High
enable_dnsserver = True
ip_pms = 10.0.1.201
port_webserver = 80

Description/Problem:
I'm still running an old iOS on my ATV2.  I wanted to verify that PlexConnect would work for me, before upgrading the iOS and losing the ability to use SeasonPass.

Since my iOS is old, I'm using the old PlexConnect release from Jun 21, 2013.  I've tried the more recent release too, even going through the whole cert creation and installation process.

No matter which PlexConnect version I run, the ATV says "Trailers is unavailable".  Other Internet tasks on the ATV work fine (like YouTube), so the PlexConnect DNS or DNS-forwarding seems to be working.  Everything looks good to me in the log, except for the web server address.  I'm not sure why that's needed, but I've tried the default 0.0.0.0, and the IP of the Mac mini, neither works.

Log file is attached - any help is appreciated!

Delete everything even old Pms apps, plexconnect, installers, plists, certs, etc. Use my signature to install on osx. I’ve ran on iOS 5.02 and up on 10.8.5. Save your shsh if possible using Ifaith, windows only I think, if u don’t have windows install windows using virtual box on osx then link your USB to virtual box. Heard issues with ios6 on atv subtitles and playback issues, disregard if you save your .shsh’s within apples signing window.

after finished doing what wahlman said, i recommend updating to ios 6

Thanks, Wahlman.  I've done most of what you said in your other post, regarding the PlexConnect install.  I don't need the auto-launch part yet, as it's not working when run from Terminal.

The DNS redirection is working, but it's just not sending the Trailers app to the PlexConnect webserver:

Nothing happens after that in the log, and the ATV just shows "trailers unavailable".

I have an ATV3 w/ the latest iOS, so it's time to try it on that box next...

What steps have you done to troubleshoot so far.

As far as I know the change for trailer requiring https was across all ATV firmware so you will need the latest plexconnect as well as certificate etc. the settings file you provided does not have a lot of settings.

Can you try the latest plexconnect allow it to create a new settings.cfg and then install the certificate following the standard steps and then post the content of the log file (via paste bin link) not just the contents of the terminal window.

I tried lots of different combinations of settings in the CFG file, none of which worked.  I felt that I should be able to use the old CFG file and the old 0.1 PlexConnect release, since my iOS was so old.  Not quite sure I buy that part about ATV switching to HTTPS without an iOS/FW update.  I don't see how that's possible.

Anyway, my ATV3 worked just fine with the latest PlexConnect, so I knew it was something between the ATV2, the old iOS, and the old PlexConnect.  I bit the bullet and jumped to iOS 6 on the ATV2, and PlexConnect is working fine with it now!   :D

Glad you got it try my 2nd link for autostart. Plexconnect should always be the latest master from here reguardless of ios version espically since trailers.pem is now needed, that was prob your issue all along:

WIKI says:

Deprecated: v0.1 does not feature the SSL enhancement, that Apple forced on aTV 27Aug. This release is of no use any more...

and release section:
(as of 27Aug: defunct with Apple's switch to https)
Really, v0.1 is of no use anymore.

If you believe it or not... I guess that doesn't matter. Apple created a new home screen code, now accessing the trailers app on https. No iOS update needed, the home screen is loaded every time aTV is switched on. Most probably even more often...
