Hey guys, I grabbed the updated files off of GitHub and this fixed the issue for me. Thanks a ton! I’m trying to delay buying the new Apple TVs until they go down in price.
I’ve just purchased an apple tv 3 (needed the optical out). Didn’t realise I’d have to go down the PlexConnect path.
Anyway, plexconnect is set up, it’s Connected. Now I’m getting the “error occured loading this content” error.
I was on plex 1.10.1.4602 and just just downgraded to 1.9.3.4290 as per recommendations.
Still getting “error occured loading this content”
Any ideas?
Not much to go on without some more details. I’m running 1.10.1.4602 on my iMac with plexconnect and its working so something must be causing it. What does your settings.cfg (in plexconnect folder) look like? Did you install the profiles on the atv3? Did you change the DNS setting on the atv3 to the machine you are running PMS & Plexconnect on?
@ronniead Is this error caused when accessing channels ? Or items in your library ? PMS logs will help diagnose the problem (probably transcoding is not being triggered).

Found the problem. TheiOSprofile always had this line<Setting name="HlsExtraMultiChannelAudioStream" value="ac3" />but PMS was ignoring it. It means that AC3 can be streamed to iOS devices (including ATV3).So the best temporary solution would be to remove that line from the iOS profile (
iOS.xmlfile).Updated to Version 1.9.4.4325 and found all my mkv files would not play via plexconnect and the ATV3’s. Would play fine on other plex media players
Implemented the above fix and now they are working again.
I would LOOOVE to implement this fix because this error has been driving me mad for a few months now. I use PMS on my Synology NAS. But if anyone could direct me to the location of said files (ie: iOS.xml and the lot) and/ or how to correctly alter them, I would be very greatful.
Cheers
@Beijtel Reinstalling the Synology .spk file over the previous one will update PlexConnect to its latest version without generating new certs (if you remove the previous .spk new certs will be generated, so the procedure to load them in the ATV has to be repeated unless you have a backup).
Hopefully this will solve your problem.

I know that you were trying to help, and I thank you for that. Unfortunately we have found that some of the providers of old Plex versions either offer hacked versions that expose user’s computers publicly, publish cracked content of charged apps, or even charge users for their “service”. Whenever we find such cases we ask them, sometimes legally, to remove Plex applications from their sites. I am not saying that this is the case with the provider that you have listed, but we will contact them.
You are perfectly Ok to use old Plex versions if you downloaded them from the Plex download page (or from authorized catalogs, such as Amazon, QNAP and Synology). But if you are using apps downloaded somewhere else you may have your own systems at risk, so please do not use this forum to suggest other users to do the same.
Sometimes the community decides to develop non-official Plex clients (such as PlexConnect, RasPlex and some others), or non-official plug-ins (such as WebTools). These are not hosted in Plex catalogs, but having them actively supported in this forum is a sign that they are “safe”.
Please note however that Plex publishes minimum levels (such as this) and you risk to have your apps not working with older versions.

I truly understood your reasons.
But if old versions dissolve the issues, why the new ones give us so much troubles.
I prefer the risk in using old version, unless the new one works correctly. (not the moded ones, i’m against too)
Looks like the developers are trying to turn old devices unusable… i do not get the point.
If something is working, they should keep them working.
But as i said. I truly understood your reasons.

Please specify which problems, we are here to help solving them.

Makes sense to always keep an old version (I would suggest to keep the latest 5). As you say, new versions sometime carry new problems, and when it’s not possible to wait for a solution, then going to a previous version is inevitable.

You have my sympathy. But when technology has to move forward there are sometimes consequences like these. Let’s consider, for example, the security scheme built around plex.tv. It requires PMS from a certain version onwards. Older versions can’t connect to plex.tv, therefore recent plex clients can’t find old servers, old clients can only work locally (because remote comms require plex.tv), etc. It’s not possible to offer security to 90% of the users (that are using not so old PMS versions) and have a “back door” open to unsecure servers.
These are not easy decisions, but they are not exclusive to Plex. Most old PC’s can’t run Windows 10, 32-bit PC’s can’t run 64-bit apps, digital TV trashed analog TV’s, old cars can’t circulate because you can’t find leaded fuel anymore, or they do not respect today’s environmental and safety regulations, etc. Sometimes we have to put old devices in a museum. One day AppleTV2&3 will be in a museum…
