I created a .plexignore file in a top folder which contains 7 sub-folders. It did not work. All 7 sub-folders were scanned into the library. My file does not have .txt extension.
Do I need something in the file to say exclude all content in those sub-folders?
Ok I get it. Is there anyway to fix the current content that I did not want included? I changed the contents to *.mkv. Will updating the library remove the content or do I have to do it manually? Is there a way to say remove a folder from the library without removing the media from the NAS?
A .plexignore file can do that… see the link shared above for examples on what the file should contain to exclude specific files, folders or more flexible rules with placeholders…
This feature is working for me and I find it very useful for excluding video files (short-term or longer-term) without actually moving a file to a different location.
My .plexignore text file (located at the root/base level of each library) contains just *PLEXIGNORE*. The * characters (regex) means match-zero-or-more characters before “PLEXIGNORE” and match-zero-or-more characters after the text “PLEXIGNORE”.
With this in place I simply add “PLEXIGNORE” to any media file name and Plex Media Server ignores it. Sweet!
