PlexKodiConnect: Kodi Plex Integration Done Right

Hi @croneter I noticed that with the new beta 2.8.8 my season and episode texts in the On Deck & Recently Added TV Shows went away. I uninstalled and reinstalled the official repo and installed 2.8.7 and all is well.

Btw, I tried all kinds of things to get it going before completely uninstalling. I reset the node thing, tried resetting the PKC database. Tried a few things to troubleshoot.

That’s because widgets now link to Kodi video library files, being much faster - but PKC now can’t customize e.g. labels. If you still want to append the tv show title and/or the season number to an episode’s name, pick the widget like this:

  • Video Library
  • Video Add-on
  • PlexKodiConnect
  • Name of your Plex library
  • “More…”
  • Then the widget of your choice (will be slower though!)

Changelog

version 2.8.9 (beta only):

  • Fix sections that are not synced not displaying menu but entire library
  • Provide more metadata for unsynced directory-like items like a tv show
  • Fix ‘Plex.nodes..path’ not linking directly to entire library

version 2.8.10 (beta only):

  • Fix broken PKC update

@croneter i understand that. In fact, you brought that to my attention a long time ago. I already had the correct widgets chosen via add-on, Plex library, “more…” The moment 2.8.8 updated they were gone. I relinked the widgets but they still didn’t appear. I reverted to the official repo and installed 2.8.7 then it was good again

Changelog

version 2.8.11 (beta only):

  • Support for the Up Next Kodi add-on
  • Fix casting to PlexKodiConnect always starting the first episode
  • Rename video nodes for ondeck

HI croneter,

You might have seen me around. You have helped me out a couple of times when I got stuck (usually on something stupid).
I just want to say that your software (and support) is probably the best there is in the media software. The integration and setup is super easy and works (for me) flawless.
Recenly I tried to replace my plex server. I tried many different configurations.
EMBY, OSMC etc. The problem they all have is getting the content to my STB. I use the RP 3B+ with Kodi. With your setup I get zero buffering. I even have one box that came from Openelec that will play 4k NO Problem. I’m not sure where the good integration comes in maybe it’s Plex’s trans-coding but whatever it works great.
Rignt now I also use an IPTV provider to get channel content. I have it setup with Kodi perfect IPTV player and it works pretty good.
I don’t have any digital OTA integration but have coax to each tv so it doesnt matter anyway.

What I’m wondering is if you would ever consider adding live tv to your software. I would be able to connect something like HDHomerun to plex and pipe it to the tv’s.

Just a thought.

Thanks for all the effort you do for this community.

Changelog

version 2.9.0:
WARNING: You might have to manually select your PKC widgets again

  • versions 2.8.8 - 2.8.11 for everyone
  • Fix AttributeError: ‘NoneType’ object has no attribute ‘attrib’ on playback startup
  • Add new Lithuanian translations (thanks @egidusm)

I’m not sure if I’m getting this right but there’s no On Deck for TV Shows if I navigate via the video library when I’m selecting my widgets. So I created them navigating via the Add-ons. But is that how it’s supposed to be? There are On Deck nodes for the movies in the video library, just got for TV Shows.

That’s exactly what you need to do!

Sorry for the hassle, but I had to cheat quite a bit to fix some bugs and Kodi does NOT make it easy for developers to deal with these nodes. Hence the “workaround”

I am also finding that TV Shows has lost On Deck. Movies has an option called “PKC On Deck (Faster)”, but TV shows does not have any On Deck option.
I am also using the workaround however could not get episode details back whatever I did.

Since v2.8.3 this issue is back again.
v2.8.0 is working ok.
v2.8.3 and up are having this issue again.

What do you mean? Can you be more specific?

Sorry for lack of details - I could not get the series and episode numbers back in the name of the series.

did you figure out a solution? If you look up a few posts, I had the same issue. I resolved it by going to official add-on repo not beta and reverted back to 2.8.7 and got my season episode info back

No fix to episode naming in title yet - just living with it for the moment. Hopefully there may be a fix or work around at some point - I tried the fix mentioned above by croneter (copied below) but did not appear to work for me - does it for anyone else?

Will be fixed for the PKC “On Deck” widget for TV shows shortly. Just need time

Great news and thanks! Will now shut up and be patient

Hi,
really love the idea and function of this addon, all is running smoothly on my side (sync of Movies/Series works fine) but I am simply unable to start any playback. Beside some EOF messages I can see nothing related in the log, Playback via official Kodi addon, App and Browser works fine. Curious is that FireTV Stick, Windows PC and a Raspberry are affected… Really strange.
Maybe someone can read any further out of the debug log?

The only special is that i tunnel over a NGNIX Server but even with fixed address pointing to my PMS running on my ShieldTV does not work.

Any hint appreciated!

Thanks,
Dan

Thanks croneter, just so you know episode naming is broken on recently added TV also. As I mentioned a few weeks before, I just reverted back to 2.8.7 and had to redo the widgets, so I’m ok for the time being.

I’m very sorry, but PKC seems to be running properly and correctly hands over the movie to Kodi to start playback. Then things go astry

Is the following URL accessable by Kodi?

https://10-1-1-7.a739c1f5e9f24e13b23e60af1bd54909.plex.direct:32400/library/parts/30288/1562520499/file.mkv?X-Plex-Platform=Konvergo&Connection=keep-alive&X-Plex-Device-Name=Kodimgl-032181-nb&X-Plex-Provides=client%2Ccontroller%2Cplayer%2Cpubsub-player&X-Plex-Token=xx:xx:xxx&X-Plex-Model=10&X-Plex-Platform-Version=2.26.0.947-1e21fa2b&X-Plex-Client-Identifier=xx:xx:xxx&Accept=%2A%2F%2A&X-Plex-Device=Windows&X-Plex-Product=PlexKodiConnect&Content-Type=application%2Fx-www-form-urlencoded&X-Plex-Version=2.9.0

I can’t help you further than that, unfortunately. I’d try and take this issue to the Kodi forums.
