Ok, to bad. Maybe there would be an way to integrate it with an API, if they still will earn there money on the ads.
Hi Croneter,
again, thanks for this great addon - i have only a minor issue. I added my dad as a managed user on my plex server and he is using Kodi with your addon. he is logged in with the managed user account but the watched status and on deck are always mixed with my account. when he is watching an episode than this tv show would be “on my deck”. we use different computer names and different names in the plexkodiconnect addon but this still happens. maybe you can have a look where the issue is coming from. (it does not happen if he is using e.g. the native plex client on windows). happy to help if you need more information.
Could you please open a new issue on Github, following How to Report A Bug · croneter/PlexKodiConnect Wiki · GitHub? Could you please also share the exact steps on how to replicate the bug? Thanks ![]()
I don’t know what you mean. You can choose your transcoding quality in the PKC settings under Playback. The PMS should even auto-adjust the quality if your network speed is too slow, but PKC can’t guarantee that this works…
Is there a way to get direct path working if you don’t have all your movies on one drive? I have 2 drives for my movies library on my Ubuntu server that hosts Plex Media Server (/mmt/E and /mnt/N) and the folders added to the Movies library on plex are /mnt/E/movies and /mnt/N/movies. All my kodi PCs are windows 10 and I can access smb://ubuntu/E/movies and the other one just fine. Is there a way to set it up with multiple drives? I tried replace Plex paths and set original to /mnt/N/movies and replace to smb://ubuntu/N/movies just to test one of them but that doesn’t seem to be working either. The logs don’t seem very detailed for this and this is all I found relevant:
08:48:12.076 T:1708 NOTICE: PLEX.playback_decision: User chose playback method DirectPath in PKC settings
08:48:12.077 T:1708 DEBUG: PLEX.playback_decision: videoCodec received from the PMS: {u’videocodec’: u’h264’, u’container’: u’mkv’, u’bitrate’: u’13010’, u’height’: u’1036’, u’width’: u’1920’, u’bitDepth’: u’8’, u’aspectratio’: None, u’resolution’: u’1080’}
08:48:12.081 T:1708 NOTICE: PLEX.playback_decision: PKC decided on playback method DirectPlay
Any help would be appreciated, I would also like this for TV as I have about 10 drives for that
Edit: I tried removing the second folder from the library and setting it up but it still didn’t work
Yes, but it’s complicated.
Follow Option 2 Substitute Paths on the PMS · croneter/PlexKodiConnect Wiki · GitHub. You’d need to change your Plex library paths to something like smb://HOSTNAME/shows and NOT smb://ubuntu.
My advice: stick to Add-on paths
I can not seem to get this to work my movies path is set to substitute /media/mibix-module for smb://mibix-module and all the paths are the same after that, all media is copied using those steps and I can access the smb path through Kodi. /media/mibix-module/E/Movies/Ben-Hur.2016.1080p.BluRay.DTS.x264-CyTSuNee/9bc215d248c34e079b052418b5ce2286.mkv is accessible through \mibix-module\E\Movies\Ben-Hur.2016.1080p.BluRay.DTS.x264-CyTSuNee\9bc215d248c34e079b052418b5ce2286.mkv and through the smb:// path not sure what im doing wrong?
When I go to show media path it still has the plugin:// address and its showing im streaming on the plex dashboard
EDIT: After a restart maybe it is working you just cant see that path in the Kodi GUI and it still has a streaming record in the plex dashboard. In my Kodi logs now it seems to be working:
14:38:01.348 T:7644 NOTICE: PLEX.playback_decision: PKC decided on playback method DirectPath
14:38:01.348 T:7644 NOTICE: PLEX.playback_decision: The playurl for DirectPath is: smb://mibix-module/E/Movies/Ben-Hur.2016.1080p.BluRay.DTS.x264-CyTSuNee/9bc215d248c34e079b052418b5ce2286.mkv
EDIT 2: It still seems to pick directplay sometimes?
EDIT 3: I’m a derp and a needed to resync everything after I changed the sync options to direct path and restarted
everything seems to be working now.
Glad it’s working now ![]()
Have you noticed that Plex doesn’t detect changes to your library as well when you have a SMB share mounted and are using the folders in the mounted share for Plex Libraries? It seems to be missing newly added content now. I just set it to scan every 15 minutes for now but it didn’t seem like this before.
That should definitely not be the case. A full library scan every e.g. 60min is enough, as PKC detects changes to Plex live. Try restarting Kodi.
The only exception is the use of managed users. Unfortunately, Plex then won’t tell what’s going on on the Plex Media Server side
It seems to be a problem with Plex now that its using the new paths, not PlexKodiConnect. PlexKodiConnect updates almost instantly when Plex is updated. Plex just doesnt seem to be picking up library changes as well now that its using that mounted smb share. Not a huge deal, still faster than Kodi’s scans with a mysql backend.
Ah, I get it now. Didn’t know that Plex has issues with smb paths ![]()
I don’t know it seems to be working better now, I guess I was just being a derp again
I love this addon, thanks for your work!
Do you know if there is a way to map a keyboard key to do the “perform manual library sync” in the addon? A lot of times when my computer comes out of sleep mode (with Kodi still open) it gets a little stuck and I just need to hit it once to get it going.
Changelog
version 2.10.8 (beta only):
- Improve thread pool management to render PKC snappier
- Attempt to fix broken pipe error
- Fix DirectPaths when a video’s folder name is identical to a video’s filename (you will need to manually reset the Kodi database)
I just discovered PKC and it seems to be exactly what I want to stop having multiple databases etc for my various devices in Kodi (I don’t like Plex app.interface/UI at all).
It seems to work beautifully. My only two issues (Kodi 18 on Fire TV 4k with Aeon Nox Silvo skin) are:
-
The FAQ says libraries will be jumbled together unless I edit the menu shortcuts. Mine are NOT jumbled, but I’d like them to be – I have two separate shared libraries of TV shows (don’t want one of them to be shared with all users) and would like them to be combined together when I choose TV Shows from the home menu, but this doesn’t happen and I don’t see any way to do this.
-
The FAQ says you can’t have it so that selecting a movie will take you to its Info page rather than playing the movie. But on my laptop, with PKC and the same version of Kodi and same skin, it does take me to the Info page. On the Fire Tv, though, it does not, and the context menu’s Show Information also does not work. Both installations have the skin setting of “select action = information” rather than play.
Other than these two things, PKC seems perfect, thanks for a very slick app!
I have an issue and a feature request.
Issue:
The issue is that the ‘next’ button on the OSD during playback does not work. I also can’t use the ‘next’ button on my Harmony remote, as this just does fast forward. I’m using direct paths, and PKC knows what the next episode is, as the ‘next episode’ interface does pop up 30s from the end of the episode.
Device: Shield TV 2017
Kodi: Kodi 18.5
PKC addon: I’ve tried PKC releases 2.10.4 (stable) and 2.10.8 (beta).
Skins: tried several including Titan Mod and Aeon Nox Silvo.
Feature request:
In the official Plex apps, we have the facility to select a TV episode from ‘on deck’ and choose ‘go to season’ or ‘go to show’. In PKC, in my ‘on deck’ widget I can only play the episode. To go to the show page, I have to manually find the show. Is it possible to make this work? Is this a Kodi thing, a PKC thing or a skin thing?
PlexKodiConnect has literally nothing to do with this issue because pkc simply hands over playback to Kodi. Please check with Kodi why the next button is not working (do you even have an active Kodi playlist?)
