PlexKodiConnect: Kodi Plex Integration Done Right

I started using this a few days ago and I am quite happy with it! I have one question though. Is there anyway to be able to use the download subtitles add on to download subtitles to the folder of the video I am watching. With plexbmc this was possible, but with plexkodiconnect I haven’t managed to do it. When I press the download subtitles, I can find results, but when I download the subtitles they don’t go to the folder of the video. Obviously, I am asking because this worked fine before.

thank you croneter for all your hard work!

Just to confirm what croneter has suggested. You are seeing this because you do not have direct paths on. Once this is active in the PKC settings, you will find that all subtitles are correctly identified and will download to the same folder the movie is in.

I’m keeping things on the stable end with Jarvis for now. I’ve tried Titan, and I just plain don’t like the looks :stuck_out_tongue:

What exactly you don’t like in Titan? Let me explain, I also tried PKC with Titan and hated the skin look, the bubble blueish background, the blue highlights… but I managed to tweak it heavily to obtain a very “plex-like” look with orange accents and everything in dark gray. If you are interested I can post some screenshot this evening (italian time). Of course if you don’t like the “flat” look but you want something more “decorated” then it’s not for you

I’ll gladly see what you’ve come up with! I admit, I didn’t spend more than 5-10 minutes with it, but it was just too overwhelmingly blocky and blue, that I didn’t spend much time trying to alter it. Like I said above, though, Aeon Nox Silvo works great for me right now, doing everything I want it to and looking at least somewhat like PHT.

Everyone has their own ideas and hangups when it comes to the perfect media center, don’t they?

I think we are suffering from this bug.

Sounds like maybe they are going to fix it in the next release, so I am not sure if its worth tracking down and fixing like the openPHT guys did.

If so, than I am not experiencing this bug. Just watched GoT yesterday and it was marked watched correctly

Not entirely, I’m running the latest 1.0 PMS server with the latest PKC addon release, and it’s marking stuff as watched just fine. Are the any special circumstances under which this bug manifests?

Mark as watched doesn’t work for me with On Deck TV Shows (browsing manually to the TV Show and the season and marking the episode as watched works fine).

Weird, nothing I have watched (Both movies and TV shows.) is getting marked so I assumed when I saw this report that was the issue. I’ll do some futher testing to see if manually marking is getting sent to the server etc tonight.

@croneter,

I have been using PKC for the last few weeks and I am very happy with it. I want to take it to the next step, and have a few questions for you.

For me, the next step is to include my huge music library (165k tracks), which Plex handles really well, and provides a lot of information (I am a Plex Pass subscriber, so I have a premium music library in Plex).

My questions:

  1. Should I go ahead and change the default setting in PKC and start using direct paths before syncing my music library?
  2. Will having my music library mean a significant slowdown in syncing times (without taking into account the initial sync, of course)?
  3. Will PKC bring over to Kodi all of the information Plex has/shows in the music library, like artist bios, album reviews, top tracks, similar artists, etc., and show that, if the Kodi skin supports it?
  4. Are there any other considerations I should take into account before taking this next step?

As always, thank you for your stellar work on this addon.

Regards,

Bart

@croneter - I still receive notifications for the emby for kodi addon and sometimes provide support there. Anyway this PR is simple and improves performance: https://github.com/MediaBrowser/plugin.video.emby/pull/44

So please add it in when you get the chance.

If you left the standard PKC settings intact, yes, new and changed pms items should he synced almost instantly (say 2 minutes ;-)). PKC will not display a pop-up though - the new items will just magically appear

Edit - watched status should be synced within <30 seconds

Doesnt seem to be happening for me. Have reset the addon to default just in case I had messed it up. Altered the watched status of a movie (2 Guns) but didnt update within Kodi. Gave it a couple of minutes to be sure. Attached a log which seems to show alot of errors for various things.

And scrap that, it’s now been unmerged: Revert "Faster XML processing and lower memory" by kravone · Pull Request #45 · MediaBrowser/plugin.video.emby · GitHub

Will keep an eye on it to see what happens

Thanks for keeping an eye out. An early PKC version actually used the same etree “fork” as in that PR, but it was rather unreliable.

I have honestly no idea how PKC/Kodi will react for either plugin paths or direct paths. I would love for you to try this out and report back ;-). Do a backup before trying anything though. In principal, PKC gets all information/metadata from the PMS as for videos. Similar artists and similar tracks are not supported.

If you use plugin paths, Kodi keeps trying to scan all music folders unsuccessfully. As the PMS puts every single song in a different “virtual” folder, that’s a whole lot of folders. Kodi could crash, I don’t know. Unfortunately, I haven’t been able to solve this as the Kodi music DB works quite differently (I cannot turn these scans off, for example).

If you use direct paths, Kodi actually finds your songs and scans them. Kodi should not crash. It seems like it then overwrites some of PKC’s adjustments to the music database with the results of this file-scan. I’d be interested in what you find out :-).

By the way - I don’t use Plex for Music. I’ve set up a Logitech Media Server alongside the PMS and run a SqueezElite client on my raspi alongside Kodi. Works fantastic and you got internet radio streams and an alarm

Attached as requested. Thanks for the help.

I think I’m suffering from this known issue:

“If something on the PMS has changed, this change is synced to Kodi. Hence if you rescan your entire library, a long PlexKodiConnect re-sync is triggered”

Pretty much every time I launch Kodi it spends several minutes syncing my entire library. Is there any workaround, maybe something i can change in Plex?

Ah, you found a bug! You were transcoding on another Plex device, which did not lead to PMS messages as expected. Will be fixed in next release, No playstate update if transcoding · Issue #69 · croneter/PlexKodiConnect · GitHub
