It is not possible on the kodi side to not sync the plex library.
It is also not possible on the plex media server side to disable synching for your users and friends. But then, if you don’t trust them, you shouldn’t be sharing anything anyway ;-). If you only share certain plex libraries with your users and friends, that of course is respected by PKC (not everything will be shown).Hi Croneter,
By my understanding the PlexKodiConnect is the Plex Client App, so the content should not be synced.
E.G.
Plex Android App does not modify the local libraries and the context is available via Plex App itself.
Not sure if Smart TV App sync the context locally.
Why Netflix/Youtube/VEVO plugins did not sync their context but it is possible to access and play it?
Why most of smartphone apps have the option to not sync their contacts into phone local contact library? As @morenr1 said. It creates some issues in library management, as well as duplicates (local + remote).
Everybody has different library organization and the option to not sync into local library should be available.
If not, the only option is to use separately XBMC & Plex. Thanks
All arguments are very valid. Try using PlexBMC instead of PKC, they are doing exactly what you’re looking for.
On the other hand, PKC enables Kodi to do what it’s supposed to do precisely because the database is synced. Use any skin. Use almost any addon. Really fast fluent library scrolling. Check the wiki on github.com for more info on this - first page
@Yukon Just saw your other post, http://forums.plex.tv/discussion/223373/kodi-xbmc-streaming-device-client
What exactly are you trying to achieve? Or what is the exact problem?

Newly installed the add on and works great. One question, should updates be passed immediately to Kodi, for example when I add a movie/tv show or change the watched status on the server? Or is there a setting I can enable to make this happen? If you left the standard PKC settings intact, yes, new and changed pms items should he synced almost instantly (say 2 minutes ;-)). PKC will not display a pop-up though - the new items will just magically appear
Edit - watched status should be synced within <30 seconds
Doesnt seem to be happening for me. Have reset the addon to default just in case I had messed it up. Altered the watched status of a movie (2 Guns) but didnt update within Kodi. Gave it a couple of minutes to be sure. Attached a log which seems to show alot of errors for various things.
Please turn on Debug logging the PKC settings, advanced and try again to capture your bug. Nothing too bad happening yet in this log
Attached as requested. Thanks for the help.
Ah, you found a bug! You were transcoding on another Plex device, which did not lead to PMS messages as expected. Will be fixed in next release, No playstate update if transcoding · Issue #69 · croneter/PlexKodiConnect · GitHub
@c0m3r - I cannot replicate your bug; my PMS sends some additional messages. Before I implement a workaround, I’d like to check that everything is OK on your PMS side. Have you tried rebooting your PMS’ server? What OS are you using?
I’d be very happy if we could move this conversation over to Github, No playstate update if transcoding · Issue #69 · croneter/PlexKodiConnect · GitHub, much easier ![]()
I can’t get photos to display, am I doing something wrong? If I go to pictures, I can select “Picture add-ons” and PKC is there. If I select PKC I can navigate to my photos, and it even displays a photo correctly in the thumbnail. However, when I select a photo, it just goes to a black screen and doesn’t do anything. I refreshed and did a manual scan.

Be careful to enable debug logging in both kodi and PKC

Nevermind, full database reset got it working. Thanks!

Not a problem, will try as suggested and provide feedback on Github. Thanks
I am using the ODROID-C2, connected to a 4K Vizio television. Something in the profile that plex is using to match with PlexKodiConnect is forcing transcoding for one of two reasons. One is that it says that maximum video is 8-bit, but my device and TV can play 10-bit video with no issue. Another issue is that the maximum video settings is 40mb 1080p, and some of the 4K video files exceed 40mb/s so Plex is transcoding because it exceeds this level in the plug in settings. Thoughts?

Use direct paths…then that leaves playback in kodi’s very capable hands

@josephasmith1 You found a bug, working on it: Transcoding even if Direct Play selected · Issue #70 · croneter/PlexKodiConnect · GitHub
Thanks for reporting it
Fantastic work! The plug-in is amazing with the ODROID-C2.
Your work is fantastic dude. I been quietly watching and waiting since March now to a point that I might feel safe moving away from the God awful Plex client players on my SHIELD TV and to SPMC for the first time.
However, even though you have said PKC works with almost any add-on I want to see what you think about using it on a headless server. My PMS is hosted on a hidden-from-the-family box that has no video card, no display, no mouse and no keyboard. Only the power cable and Ethernet cable are connected to my server machine. The machine is a old Intel Xeon 6 core (x5650) 12 thread server. I have disabled everything on board, except for the sata ports and installed a new Intel based Gigabit PCIe NIC card for the absolute best Network performance and used Windows Home Server since its just easier for me to work with. I also use Stablebit Drivepool server add-on so Plex thinks it is dealing with one 6TB drive (Drive A:), instead of the three 2TB drives it is unknowingly working with. This setup works brilliantly and has been near zero maintenance needed for years now. Just never ever fails us.
The main add-on (and ONLY Plex add-on) I am concerned about is the “Plex Service Wrapper” add-on by cjmurph, which works unbelievably well for me. The actual Plex app never loads at boot because the service wrapper puts the Plex app into a service type mode (I don’t exactly know how it works though, but it works great). And I just access the Server via RDP as an Admin when ever I need to update Plex or my FTP server. Then I reboot the Server and PMS runs like a service, instead of a program, never once loading the Desktop (until I sign in again via RDP of course).
Do you foresee any problems using your add-on with that Plex service wrapper add-on? I would really like to start using SPMC with PMS someday (Hopefully by SPMC 17.0), but not if it changes the way my server functions, which works more like a NAS at present. Just curious what you think about this idea.
Thank you and kudos to your awesome work bud.
Fanart.tv question. I have this setting enabled in the PKC settings and most popular movie sets have posters as expected. One that doesn’t is Aladdin. Fanart.tv didn’t have a collection poster on their site so I actually opened an account, created a collection poster and uploaded it. This poster has been live for 3 days now on their site but my collection poster in Kodi is still blank. Is there any way to force update the posters short of a full resync? Should it automatically be picking up the new poster?

Check fanart.tv for their different “pricing models”. PKC uses a free key, so it takes a couple of days or even a month until the newest art can be downloaded. You may change this key if you edit settings.xml in the plexkodiconnect user data folder.
Currently you will have to completely reset your kodi db. Or wait until the pms changes the item you want to update. I’ll think about implementing a function that would only try to download additional, missing artwork

How would that work on a collection poster since PMS doesn’t use those @croneter ? Will only a reset pull the new art or will it eventually show up on its own?

Changing any movie belonging to that specific set on the PMS should work.

Woohoo best news I had in a while. Thank you croneter.
playback stutters immediately after sync message:
sometimes my playback with stutter after the message pops up that says pkc sync completed.
Is it possible to set pkc to delay sync action during playback?
I’m running SPMC on a 1st gen FireTV.
