PlexKodiConnect: Kodi Plex Integration Done Right

Hi Croneter,

Thank you very much for this plugin
Is there any way to filter libraries to avoid one particularly to be scanned?
and not use the shortcuts trick.

Cheers

NicoLeOca

Thanks :-). Simple create a new Plex user. Restrict its access to that library you don’t want . Choose that user when asked by PKC. https://support.plex.tv/hc/en-us/articles/203948776-Managed-Users

That could be a good trick too.
however, I still want to be able to access to these libraries from kodi.
I just don’t want them to be displayed in the movie section for instance.
It’s a bit like choosing what you want to have on deck in Plex.

Don’t worry it must be complicated, and must require some development

Well, then there’s only this “standard” option: Video Nodes and Skins · croneter/PlexKodiConnect Wiki · GitHub

Hey @croneter. Long time no post (which is a good thing)!

Question before I post this to GIT just in case I’m doing something wrong.

I have a movie with 2 versions (3D and standard). Plex sees it as 2 of the same as the poster icon has a “2” in the upper left corner. When I go to play the movie in Kodi, I get no option to choose a version. I’ve made sure that “Don’t ask to pick…” is unchecked in the PKC settings but when I go to play it’s just defaulting to the 3D version. Any ideas?

Welcome back ;-). Best to indeed open an issue and attach the item(s) XML

Done. XML does seem to indicate that there are 2 versions available. Within Kodi should I be doing anything special or would something pop up automatically when I hit Play on this particular title?

My guess is that you’ll have to choose Replace Plex paths in the PKC settings with

Original Plex Path: /storage/ASUSTOR/<movies>
Replace Plex Path with: smb://ASUSTOR/<movies>

Make sure that you Enter network credentials for your NAS in the PKC settings connection tab.

works !
many thanks !

Hi @croneter i love your work , i have one issue and request.

ISSUE : i try to config PKC with my remote server, but when every time i select a server PKC report me, it’s not possible to connect. if i do manually with IP work.

REQUEST: it’s possible to use 2 server on same time because i use one for movie and other for show, or use two plugin ?

Thank you in advance

Please open an issue on Github and provide logs with PKC debugging enabled, see How to Report A Bug · croneter/PlexKodiConnect Wiki · GitHub

For an in-depth explanation why this does not make sense and for a workaround, see Multiple Plex Media Servers · croneter/PlexKodiConnect Wiki · GitHub

My local library scan is’nt too bad as it’s not that large but my remote share takes a Dogs age to scan and process. Is there anyway to avoid or speed it up?
Or a way not to sync remote librarys.

Yes, that’s really a downside of PKC :-(.

You can, however, clone an existing Kodi/PKC installation including all the cached images from the fast Kodi machine to the slow one. See http://kodi.wiki/view/Add-on:Backup and https://www.tvaddons.ag/clone-configuration-kodi/. Make sure that you Generate a new unique device Id for the new Kodi installation in the PKC advanced settings, PKC settings · croneter/PlexKodiConnect Wiki · GitHub

Thanks. I’ll definetely be making a backup.
just need to get things stable now. I keep getting lock up. Not sure if it PKC or SPMC or the combination of them both.
More testing required.

I do like the Library intergration though so keep up the good work.

What options would you recommend to use to stop the addon sucking a chunk out of my metered downloads anytime I need to rebuild the database? Have already disabled the options to search fanart.tv and to find collection arts.

Good, then you should have blocked 99% of the traffic originating from PKC. As an “extreme” measure, you could not sign in to plex.tv, but that seems a bit excessive as PKC only grabs info about your PMS servers on sign-in.

If you still get a lot of traffic, I bet there’s a ton of other Kodi addons and Kodi itself that grab data…

Do you have any ideas what could be triggered KODI side by PKC’s database rebuild to use the internet? (~300MB from a minute of sync)

If your Plex media server is local, I don’t. Send me your kodi logs with kodi and PKC debugging enabled in a private message and I will have a look

Just downloaded and installed, works great so far, many thanks! Didn’t think this would be possible. Since I have Chromecast in my bedroom and Kodi on the HTPC in the living room I’ve been wanting to sync the watched status for so long, really glad I found this! One question regarding library updates. You recommended to turn of “Update my library periodically” to not have the library completely re-sync whenever there’s a new item. But since I have all my media on my NAS, Plex uses SMB-shares to access it, and in the past Plex have had problems with updating SMB paths, but “Update my library periodically” seems to have worked pretty good. What setting should I use to make my library update automatically whenever I download something,? It’s a been cumbersome to update manually. Cheers!

e2zippo,

I have all of my media on my NAS as well, and Plex is using SMB paths to access it. I have the options “Update My Library Automatically” and “Run a Partial Scan When Changes are detected” in my Plex server, and this works really well, movies, music, etc. appear in my libraries pretty quickly after I have placed new media in the NAS folders. I have a very large library (over 3,000 movies, over 8,000 tv episodes and over 180,000 songs) and this works well for me. My Plex server PC is connected via Gigabit Ethernet to my NAS.

I also have “Update all libraries during maintenance” set, as I have all of the “Scheduled tasks” in the Plex server settings happen everyday between 6:00am and 8:00am.

I use PKC as well, and the partial syncs when I update stuff happens really quickly.

Hope this is useful.

Regards,

Bart

Thanks Bart! I’m not sure if I missed this setting or that it didn’t work before. But it seems to work now anyway, and I enabled “Update all libraries during maintenance” same as you. Cheers!

just to notice this isn’t working with PMS installed on Nvidia Shield TV. Seems not to detect library changes. too bad because, have to force library scan periodcaly. It creates a lot of new metadata (don’t know why) and so PKC at starts, updates a lot of movies every times.
Hope Plex + Nvidia will work on the several issues when PMS on Shield
