Plexmediaserver not showing up, not even on my LOCAL login

What is going on with this? First the system was unresponsive, even locally, because of a major breakdown in plex. Now The server doesn’t show my libraries, it doesn’t show ANYTHING

Not sure why but I needed to claim my server again after this outage earlier. Access your plex servers IP (not https://app.plex.tv) and then go to server/settings and general and see if your server is claimed. If not claim it which might fix your problem.

I don’t even see the ‘server’, I think that’s the big problem here?

Looking at the linux it says;

root@plex:~# systemctl status plexmediaserver

Looks like an unrelated problem to the one from earlier. Unfortunately systemctl won’t tell you much, you should look at the plex logs themselves to see if there is anything.

I have no idea what to look for:

I have a suspiscion. During the breakdown this morning, I asked the server to log out of plex. I suspect that it could be some sort of discrepancy, so that it thinks it’s connected, but really isn’t.

If you asked the server to logout then I believe you have to claim it again via your IP of the server. Are you sure http://xx.xx.xx.xx:32400/web/index.html does not work ? (replace xx with your ip of plexserver)

@KFribert

Friendly FYI in case you didn’t know.

You turned off DEBUG logging. You don’t save any space. Logs are fixed size.

You did make it impossible for us to help because we won’t be able to see what PMS was doing at time of failure.

If you turn it back on, keep VERBOSE turned OFF. Verbose logging is so verbose that we only get 2 minutes instead of the typical 30-120 minutes.

If I go to the IP:32400, I first get shown a login with all my local accounts.
I then log in with the one that is administrator, and then I just see this:

If I go to settings, I see this:

I tried fetching the debug from within the webinterface:
But it’s too big to be pasted
debug.txt (91.4 KB)

If I go and try to add it, I see this:

It’s really weird.

Try clearing your browser cache and cookies so that your using an empty browser. Think that is why you can’t get to your server using the locally ip.

I’ve tried using chrome instead of my usual firefox, and clearing the browser.
I get a login to the plex account, but other than that it’s the same :frowning:

Flush out of ideas. You should always be able to access your server over local ip (if it’s running) so not sure what’s happening.

Well, thankyou for helping nevertheless, maybe somebody else has some ideas?

Hmm I’ve tried installing a brand new plexmediaserver_1.24.0.4930-ab6e1a058_amd64 in a new proxmox container.
It behaves the EXACT same way, so I don’t think that it’s a problem on my server, I think it’s in the plex backend :frowning:

Hi @ChuckPa
How do I turn it on? I don’t see the server settings as I posted previously.
Can I do it directly in the preferences.xml?

Btw. I also have https activated for my local plexmediaserver, but that doesn’t work after the problem yesterday morning (authentication failure), I can only access the port 32400 without https.
It is encrypted with a ‘letsencrypt’ certificate. Is there a way to make it not use the certificate, I guess that could be a problem as well?

EDIT: Ok, I found the settings in Preferences.xml, and I just removed the certificat settings, and set Debug to 1, and I think it worked.
I have attached the debug log to thisPlex Media Server.log (80.7 KB)
Looking through I can see that it doesn’t find my DVR, which is odd, as it’s there, and I can access it from my machine.
Then I see this as well:

Aug 21, 2021 08:23:22.838 [0x7f31d7046b38] DEBUG - MyPlex: mapping state set to 'Mapped - Not Published'.
Aug 21, 2021 08:23:22.838 [0x7f31d7046b38] DEBUG - MyPlex: mapping state set to 'Mapped - Not Published (Bad Authentication)'.

I barely know proxmox. I am not really of any use. I don’t understand how it works.
It’s not a platform I’ve had any time to learn. Sorry.

I doubt that proxmox has anything to do with it? It’s just running as a VM, like on QNAP, Synology or whatever.

I’ve tried moving it to another VLAN (my internal LAN, ie. no port 32400 mapping), and then I don’t see the GUI when I try to access it, just an XML page.

EDIT: I’ve now tried installing plex on my windows desktop, which is a stupid installation, but just for debugging. I see this URL for it:
http://127.0.0.1:32400/web/index.html#!/setup/52d6bb901f99163222xxxx
And I can set up the server, but I don’t want to use this powerhungry Windoze box for plex.
In this I can see all the server settings etc. that I don’t see even on a newly installed linux box with plexmediaserver_1.24.0.4930-ab6e1a058_amd64

Ok, so the problem was partly solved by this:

Secondly my plex server is on an IOT network, instead of LAN, so as Tommy pointed out, I can’t claim it if I’m not on the same LAN.

It’s finally back. So somehow it needed removal of credentials.
Thanks @chuckpa and Tommy for your great help.
