PlexPass family plan?

...

My advice: Good old traditional parenting until Plex FamilyPass has been released....personally I would pay the $25 per month without hesitation until the FamilyPass comes along rather than all this time wasting...maybe that's just me...

...

Good old traditional parenting? To me that's restricting access. Out of site out of mind. No matter how you have raised your child since birth, you don't give a 12 year old an iPad with access to age inappropriate content and say, "Son, now don't you watch the inappropriate content!". Curiosity killed the cat.

Also, it won't help with the sync issue to pay $25 a month and get a plex pass for all family accounts. My understanding is you can only sync to the plex pass account that the server is shared from.

And yes, iTunes in combo with the AppleTV is very good: Smart playlists, syncing, beautiful native TV interface, fast, full and greatly implemented parental controls, controllable via the Apple iOS Remote app, Home Sharing (not that fast, sadly). AND IT IS FREE!

Interesting.

IMHO, one thing in which Apple really sucks is adult/kids content separation. I never ever understood why account swapping never made it to iTunes or IOS. Sure, you can pin-lock content based on MPAA ratings but it is a very poor supplement for login window. I just don't find it amusing to have to enter pin every time I press play on adult content. Not to mention that with login window you can hide settings or other parts of PHT/iOS app that are of no use to children. On PHT you could use a simple children friendly skin, etc.

I can only hope Plex implementation will be different from Apple's.

+1

I attempted to use iTunes years ago and I quickly dropped it. Maybe it's better now but lacked all the features I needed such as user based access, user initiated sync for selected content, and ability to play content across the internet. It may not be a 100% solution just yet, but Plex is FAR more advanced for these features than iTunes, and across multiple platforms.

willieb1172, I didn't mean to belittle your parenting skills....the fact that you care makes you a good parent...I just was attempting to say that if MTII couldn't find another solution or wasn't prepared to pay for the moment then this is what he may need to fall back to.

Pecinko is right, iTunes as a means of removing non-kid friendly programs sucks...it's crap and on top of that you have to convert a ton of files manually because all the auto programs for conversion, renaming, meta-tagging video files for the aTV is really poor...so it's a manual process...I've tried two or three approaches with this (on both Windows and OSX) and came to the conclusion it isn't worth the effort.

Anyhow, I think there is a little calm in the thread now so lets all hope that a decent implementation of FamilyPass will come and be everything we hoped....I have great confidence that the Plex Team will surpass our expectations on this feature (especially given time over a few releases)....

Scot, well said and no offense taken. Now that I go back and read my post, maybe I was too blunt. My bad...

+1 with your last sentence.

If they were to use my account (PlexPass) to get syncing, that rudimentary parental control workaround would not function. So it is $25/month (not acceptable), "parental controls" or syncing. Not good!

Not sure I understand this argument, but our intent is not to force people into buying additional PlexPasses for syncing. We'll be fixing things to allow shared/secondary users to use Sync.

Thanks, that's really great news!

What he is trying to explain is like this. If I want my kids to be able to sync to their iPads, then they are forced to use my plexpass account that I am sharing the server with via myplex, so since they are all using the same account, I lose the user login based section permissions.

Elan: can I assume with shared access using the primary server will uses be able to have their own Watched Flags than will then work in the CloudSync? As it stands at the moment if I share my library for a particular program(s) using the "Unwatched" flag it will clear/delete what is in the Cloud (even to my shared users) before they even get a chance to watch if I watch before them....sharing to users with their own flags for retention in the Cloud that is abided by for all users when using the Unwatched attribute would be ideal...

Sorry Cloud Sync rules are evaluated in the context of the server owner. Thus unwatched doesn’t work well when combined with multiuser.

Okay, fair enough....I'll just keep running two copies of PMS (back in to the one library) with two PlexPasses...

A year and counting - still nothing :(

Bump,

Getting ready for a long trip on Monday and this feature would REALLY help me out right now...

So without this feature I have to log everyone out and login as me. Then sync the movies/content I want, then log me out and them back in.

Is there an easier way?

you have been able to let non plexpass members sync since last month. check the sharing settings

Not without a Plex Pass which isn’t acceptable to pay for 6 for each member of my family.

What would be great is if it was network based and all users on the local networks in settings could sync. That would be awesome.

Why not read the link, which specifically says they do not need plexpass

Ok I stand corrected and apologize for not seeing the obvious. Plex just became the best media server ever. I usually read each blog post but totally missed that one. I don't even remember getting the email. Thanks guys, you're awesome!

While you at it can you allow plexpass users to sync from non plexpass users servers if that won't cause any issues. Thanks

Early 2021 clean-up: duplicate / implemented (Plex Home, managed users “inherit” Plex Pass features from Plex Pass account)
