PlexPass for Multi-User Homes

Once multi-user makes its way out into the wild, the PlexPass model needs tweaked for those who wants multi-user features but not the pricetag ($75 lifetime) of multiple PlexPasses.

This could be accomplished in several ways,

Changing the user/sharing model to allow for several (5) free sub-accounts under a PlexPass ($75 lifetime) master-account.

$5 one-time free for each (unlimited) sub-account or $0.99 monthly for a monthly PlexPass master account.

A new level ($125 Family PlexPass Lifetime) using (5) sub-accounts also. ($10 for another 5 subs)

A new referral level, give the 'referral code' from a full PlexPass ($75) member and get a greatly reduced full PlexPass ($25).

The last question comes down to how-to if at all the sub-accounts would be limited (to just the Primary users PMSes)

EDIT: Clarify, This is not meant to be an extension of accounts with whom the server is shared (myPlex), but rather a PlexPass user being able to extend premium features to others (sub-accounts) within their household while maintaining their own watched/resume status.  As stated below, it would probably not be ideal to allow anyone you share (myPlex) your server with to sync your library.
I associate it with PlexPass because it involves premium features and possibly a paid add-on to allow your household to use their mult-user account but also have PlexPass premium features. This is why i refer to sub-accounts of a PlexPass user who setups a PMS and then lets his family have their own accounts but also the ability to 1) sync to their devices, 2) login rather than buy the (android) mobile app(s).

Ofcourse, in order to accomplish a multiuser set-up, only the account running the server needs plexpass.  Non plexpass users will still get multiuser features.  So I dont really see the point.

What feature do you think you  are losing when the secondary accounts do not have plexpass ?

The only thing I can think of is access to the preview versions of the plex client(s).

For me one of the main handicaps with the current multiuser setup is the loss of plexsync for the secondary  accounts, note this is not a plexpass restriction but  a restriction of the sharing model, even if the secondary accounts have plexpass they still cannot sync from the shared server.

Yea well this is a good design.  While you may accept that your buddies are streaming a movie every now and then, them queing your entire library for sync is not so awesome.

I don't want my buddies to be syncing but I do want my family members to be able to sync for offline viewing and also have their own viewed status.

ie local multiuser not shared multiuser

I totally agree on convas on this.

I edited the request to clarify the feature..

Makes sense! Like.

I would love to have my other family members auto sync their media, they would greatly appreciate it. I also can't wait for multi user support to reach the mainstream release so my family can quit messing up my queue.

Multi user support would be awesome! I am looking forward to when it finally gets released!

I agree with the above posts and want to clarify something. I share my server to my family and friends. I want my family to be able to sync stuff, but NOT my friends. If my family starts queuing my server too much for sync, I should just be able to deny them that option under some settings. OR maybe have some limit feature imposed on them. Right now, my family uses my account so they can sync stuff. They used to have their own accounts so we had different a queue and watched items...Until they found out that a sync option existed. Also, when they had their own accounts, I only gave them permissions to certain folders. Now, since they are using my account, they have access to all my server folders.

As I always tell the Plex crew, keep up the great work! :D

I’d love to see sub accounts, that would then allow my 3 kids to sync from my server, which currently they can’t do, so I have to use a nexus 7 as a mobile server, but that currently has issues with ipods trying to view content from that device.

Thanks!

I knew I had seen it before (thought it was in another category, not feature request), but all my searches never cropped it up, I guess poor search term usage on my part.  I was hung up on multi-user and never considered "family plan"  maybe its because I abhor Verizon Wireless for finding anyway to force unlimited members into a "share everything" plan even when you have a single line plan, not a family plan... who are you sharing with?! the NSA?

I digress..

Lack of this feature is a problem for me too. I'm using the multi-user permissions feature for my kids which works great, but when we travel, etc, they can't sync. I have a family of 5 and see the plexpass unreasonable for $75x5. I limit them to Movies: G, PG, Approved PG-13, and Music: Christian, Approved Secular. I don't have the option of allowing them to use my login unless I remove a lot of content that my other friends have access to.

I would love this feature.

Note:  Even if  you  did  have 5 PlexPass accounts they still would not be able to sync, PlexSync is not available for shared accounts, only the primary  account (the one PMS is signed in to) can sync.

I've said part of this elsewhere but I'd like it if subaccounts were just tags of my main plex account using my account password. eg: "sandymac/child1" Then there would be a little more UI for me to control which media sections are shared with each sub-account.

This would discourage one plexpass account shared with the world as I'm not going to put my password into a non-family member or roommate's device. Maybe not perfect but it strikes enough balance of flexibility and personal information that each main account owner will protect their account. Also, likely smart to make it so if the master password is changed all sub-accounts have to re-authenticate themselves.

I would like to have PlexSync available for subaccounts of the Master PlexPass to be able to sync but limit it to locally - ie from the same network. My daughter should be able to sync her ipad since many of the movies I purchase are for home/family consumption; same for my wife and/or mistress...

Kidding aside - even Apple allows for multiple devices to share purchased content from the same account.

Sorry to be blunt but to me it's rediculous this hasn't been resolved yet. It's been 7 months since first requested.

I guess we have 2 choices, 1.) User based section access without sync, or 2.) 1 user login for my entire family (which means no user based section access) with sync.

Very frustrating and there's no alternatives yet.

As a work around I've been taking my macbook air on the road and running pms in my Suburban over wifi. Works for now but not a viable solution. PITA...

Hey I've posted what I think is a great promotion for Plex to put on that would solve our problem:

Please go and like the hell out of it so maybe it'll gain some traction
