PMP - Chrome Player controls refuse to disappear in Web App

Server Version#: 1.29.0.6244
Player Version#: 4.87.2

When using Plex Web Media Player with Chrome (in Windows, or Chrome OS) the player controls do not auto-hide while playing videos. Having these controls hide would improve the “enjoy-ability” of playback, especially for family viewing.

In addition, the controls seem to “hiccup” when they attempt to disappear, and stutter a bit (only in the control section). This is distracting to the viewer. Perhaps either a manual control (pull the controls down manually) or an option switch could be added.

I’ve noticed in the forum that this has been requested several times over the last 8 (eight) years.

Any progress on this? Controls to behave correctly in the Android app version of the PMP. Thanks!

It’s working just fine over here (Chrome on Windows).

What you need to make sure of is that the mouse must not move.
If you place it on a surface which always moves a bit, (maybe caused by your breathing or the vibrations of a speaker) then it will always cause the controls to stay (or reappear).

If you have a particularly “nervous” mouse, try to move the pointer after playback start to one of the screen edges.

Thanks, Otto! Indeed my desktop mouse was nervous, as you suggested. On the Chromebook, the problem is a bit more specific.

All is well when my Chrome browser (ver 105) is in normal more, where tabs, address bar and bookmarks are visible. When I click on the full-screen arrows (upper right corner area), the player controls become “nervous” without me touching the trackpad.

The “solution” for me is to use only the “full-screen” key (in the F4 position on a Chromebook) to clear the address bar and tabs, then park the mouse cursor in the upper right corner. Then the player controls remain locked in place at the bottom. This is much less obnoxious to the family when the program is cast to a tv, than having the browser address bar and tabs visible.

Thanks for your help. It is much appreciated, as are the efforts of all at the Plex team. We use Plex virtually every day for both our viewing and listening entertainment!
