PMP - Interface goes completely blank when loading library in TV Fullscreen

Server Version#: 1.14.0.5470
Player Version#: 3.77.2

Strange behaviour that just started today, with no apparent tie to a config change or update to either server or player.

When I put PMP into “TV Fullscreen” mode and navigate to the “Shows” section, almost immediately the UI goes blank and I have to exit the app to do anything. I encounter no problems outside TV fullscreen mode.

Here is a screenshot of my library in non-TV mode:

Here is a screenshot of my Home screen in TV mode:

And here is a screenshot of the issue in question, after I load TV mode and try to navigate to “Shows”:

Here is a logfile covering multiple reproductions of the issue, with debug logging turned on (but not verbose): PMP debug log - Pastebin.com

Edit: This is actually happening on TWO machines running Plex Media Player, same version. So this appears to be a server-side issue?

I have the exact same problem on a Mac. I updated PMP a second Mac and it now displays the same issue. I believe the problem is with PMP and not the server since the problem manifested when I updated the player each time.

Interestingly, this only happens when the player is on the same machine as the server. If I access another server on the same LAN it displays everything fine.

I have the same issue. My Plex Server is running on my Synology NAS, so the clients are NOT on the same machine. So far, I’ve tried several Windows Clients and this exact issue happens in TV Mode after upgrading the clients.

EDIT: Seems my “Photos” tab works, but TV Shows, Movies, & Home Videos tabs exhibit the issue.

I had the same problem on all my windows PMP machines, I ended up having to revert back to v2.22 to fix it. It was a pain trying to revert too, there are no listed previous versions of PMP on the Plex website.

Is there an official place to find the previous version of the PMP client?

There isn’t , but if you know the version number, build code etc you can:

E.g.:
https://downloads.plex.tv/plexmediaplayer/2.22.1.917-2a5a2e01/PlexMediaPlayer-2.22.1.917-2a5a2e01-windows-x64.exe

Hey folks, thanks bringing this to our attention, we’re looking into this issue. If any of you could share some Plex Media Player logs, it would be super appreciated  If PMP is blowing up, those will likely tell us why.

Seems there is a few of these threads. Here is the one I made, pcalves:
https://forums.plex.tv/t/pmp-disappearing-interface/344231/3

Same result, different trigger. hope it helps.

Here is a PMP logfile covering a reproduction of the issue: https://pastebin.com/M8qAeU4A

Additional notes:

  • This issue is occuring on two machines running PMP. Both are Windows 10, but otherwise different in every regard (different hardware including GPUs, different number and types of displays, etc.)

  • The thread posted by bmo_and_tox made me realize this issue definitely seems tied to playlists. If I actually click the “shows” button directly in tv fullscreen (rather than navigating to shows with remote or keyboard), I am able to see my shows. It’s the view that shows on deck, recently added, playlists, etc that causes the UI to disappear. I have several TV playlists, including a couple of “Smart” playlists.

Thanks!

Thank you @bmo_and_tox and @nickperusse! The additional context is super appreciated, as are the logs.

We’ve just released an update for PMP on Windows and macOS which contains a fix for this issue. Please try it out and let me know if you’re still seeing the strange behavior.

pcalves,
I did a quick test on the windows updated version and it seems to work smoothly. Thanks for promptly doing this.
Can we expect a WebOS / PS4 update with the same fix?

Thanks again

Also tested on my end and can confirm that the issue appears to have been fixed. Thanks!

Great to hear it! Correct, a WebOS update should already be available, PS4 should follow shortly. :+1:

Also confirming the latest PMP update resolved this problem. Thanks!
