So, here it is again: The PMP playback error. Out of the blue and from one day to another without messing around with PMP: An error occurred trying to play “xxx”. (Very informative that is btw.)
I did browse this forum for hours, disabled secure connections back and forth to no avail. This really is unfortunate for I have not got a single clue why this happens put of nowhere. Annoying for sure.
Any idea anyone? Much appreciated!
This simply means that, at that moment in time you did not have enough bandwidth to stream the quality the film was at. Simply change to a lower quality, and it will work. How much? That depends on how bad the bandwidth is for any particular day. Usually if you bring it down to 4 or 3Mbps it should work fine.
What I forgot to mention is that I am talking about the 1GB/s-LAN between my Synology NAS and my Mac mini 2018 which runs PMP. Everything used to work like a charm until the day before yesterday. Now PMP stops loading after some time.
Truth is nevertheless some files run as expected. Is there anything in PMP I should do to optimize my LAN connection?
PS: Web client and PMP iOS client have no trouble at all. Only PMP on my Mac Mini is giving me a hard time.
Are you sure? That’s unusually high, unless you have one of those premium internet packages (maybe)? If you’re absolutely sure your internet pipes are open, the next thing I would check is the codec of the file. It’s important to note that people RIP movies with all kinds of codec profiles that may not be compatible with PLEX (or any other program (despite how popular)). For instance, just recently I discovered that a movie I got was encoded with FLAC. Plex does not appear to like FLAC in movie files. Then again the bitrate could have been too high for the video.
Second, try selecting direct stream. There maybe a problem trying to transcode, because of the way the movie was encoded.
I would suggest the same thing to you. It shouldn’t make a difference that you have a NAS. I have a regular 10TB USB drive, and so far I stream locally at 17MBps with no problem. Practically blu-ray quality. By the way, I think there’s a new update. My seedbox just notified my of a new PLEX upgrade. So maybe there’s one for PMP.
