PMP Windows App missing library icons

Server Version#: 1.14.1.5488
Player Version#: 2.26.0.947-1e21fa2b-windows-x64

I am trying out PMP on Windows and the app can’t seem to find the libraries on my server. It finds the media, and seems to populate the Home screen, but I can’t select which libraries I want to browse.

Next to the Home icon, there is just a spinning circle. It never stops spinning. See the screen shot below…

The only options on my Home screen are:
Continue Watching
On Deck
Recently Added TV
Recently Added Movies
Recently Added Videos
Recently Added Music

If I select any of the items in those selections, and select the three dots (…), I get a drop-down menu where I can choose “Go to Movies” for example, and it will take me to the Movies library. I can’t get there from the main screen, nor can I see any other libraries that I have.

I have tried this on both Windows 7 and Windows 10, both show the same behavior. I have also upgraded from PMS 1.8 to 1.13 to 1.14 trying to fix the problem and still no luck.

I don’t think the problem is on the server as the web client interface there works just fine.

The only error that jumps out at me in the PlexMediaPlayer.log file that looks like it might be related is:
2019-01-31 02:46:52 [ WARN ] SettingsSection.cpp @ 82 - Looking for value: “discoverHomePageDeprecated” in section: “webclient” but it can’t be found

I don’t know that it is, but I’m guessing the problem is with trying to draw the home page icons?

Anyway, I’m baffled. If anyone has seen this before, or has any idea where I might look for ways to fix it, please let me know.

Thanks to you all in advance,
-Michael

Hi guys,

Any ideas here? What is the support mechanism for PMP? I am a plexpass member, but find it hard to get any support from Plex.

Thank you

Try this:
Shut down PMP
Empty the config folder of PMP
C:\Users\<USERNAME>\AppData\Local\PlexMediaPlayer
Afterwards, sign it into your plex account again

Hi Otto,

The system is isolated from the internet. I’m trying to access local media only, on a local server also isolated from the internet.

I cleared the config directory as you suggested and upon running PMP, the contents were re-created. I then edited the plexmediaplayer.conf file and added/edited the following lines:
Add to “main” section:
“allowHttpFallback”: “always”,
Edited “manualServers” section:
“ip1”: “10.20.30.40”,

It appears to be making contact with the intended local server and I can play media, etc., but I’m unable to select my libraries. Very odd.

Thanks again!
-Michael

I can only advise you to use an older version of PMP without the top “media types” bar.

A little more info…

We have an internal DNS relay, so the client is able to resolve plex.tv, but isn’t able to connect to it. If I edit the local hosts file and set plex.tv to 127.0.0.1, the behavior changes.

With plex.tv “masked”, the basic library icons appear – Movies, Shows, Music, etc. But, if I click on any of them, the library that is presented is the first library of that type in the list alphabetically. For example, I have a movie library called “Comedy & Stand-ups” so when I click on the Movie icon, that’s the library that comes up since it starts with a “C” rather than an “M”. This behavior holds true for all of the library types.

When I select one of the libraries, I get an errors in the log file similar to these:
2019-02-04 18:37:48 [ WARN ] SettingsSection.cpp @ 82 - Looking for value: “discoverTypePage” in section: “webclient” but it can’t be found
2019-02-04 18:37:50 [ INFO ] JS: No type was found for movie

2019-02-04 18:40:30 [ WARN ] SettingsSection.cpp @ 82 - Looking for value: “discoverTypePage” in section: “webclient” but it can’t be found
2019-02-04 18:40:31 [ INFO ] JS: No type was found for show

If I search for an item (movie, song, tvshow, etc), it seems to find it within any library. Then as illustrated in the second picture in my original post, I am able to click the (…) icon and then select the actual library.

It looks like there’s a bug here. Perhaps since it cant find the “discoverTypePage” procedure it doesn’t know how to handle multiple libraries of the same type?

Does anyone have the latest PMP working with multiple libraries of the same type? IF so, can you post a screen shot of what it should look like?

Where would I find older versions of PMP, and which version would be the latest one without the top “media types” bar?

Thanks again!

Hi, I just wanted to add myself to the list of people with the same issue. I’m on a Mac though, but I’m also using Plex for local media only. I’ve tried completely uninstalling PMP and removed all preferences. I even tried removing my libraries from PMS and adding them again, still no library icons at the top.

@msmcknight1, have you had any luck fixing this issue?

Unfortunately, no. I’ve not heard from anyone on the Plex team and haven’t found any other answers . Overall very unhappy with the support from Plex. Being a pass member isn’t all it’s cracked up to be.
