Same thing happened to me. Same release, same circumstances. Logs attached.
look at F:\NetworkShare\Audio\Ed Kowalczyk\Live London England - 2009
I suspect you have some corrupt tags/invalid metadata. However Im not seeing anything in the logs at first glance.
Tried taking Ed Kowalcyzk out and rescanning. This time only made it to B (Blackberry Smoke). Server crashed. Logs attached
Plex Media Server Logs_2022-06-02_22-47-15.zip (3.1 MB)
Update:. Once the server was back up I refreshed metadata for Blackberry Smoke individually and it refreshed fine so I don’t think it’s an issue with the files.
Experimented over the weekend with multiple attempts at refreshing all metadata. Server crashed every time at various points. One time got to C artists. Next time S. Next time L. Next time B. Seems to be random and not related to the actual files.
@drzoidberg33 Not sure if you’ve seen this. Tagging you because you initially told us about the new music metadata handler earlier this year, and this problem came up during testing then. It’s still a problem now that the feature has been promoted to beta. It seems any of us here can provide logs if you need them.
Thanks for the logs.
Could you disable lyrics by editing the library and going to Advanced → Find Lyrics, and unchecking it. Then try to reproduce the same issue again.
That worked. Disabled the lyrics option and just finished a full metadata refresh for the music library.
This is weird. I turned off ‘Find Lyrics’ and when I hit ‘Save’ Plex did a full scan of the music library. I then did a manual metadata refresh for the library and it ran successfully to completion. The odd part is that I went back to re-enable ‘Find Lyrics’ so I could run another test with it on, it was already enabled.
I then went back and disabled ‘Find Lyrics’ again. As before, Plex scanned the library. Before doing anything else, I checked the setting and ‘Find Lyrics’ was back on. So it appears the library scan resets ‘Find Lyrics.’
The good news is, with ‘Find Lyrics’ on after the scan, refreshing metadata worked. Not sure what this all means, but it’s definitely odd. When I first upgraded to the beta release that incorporated the new metadata processor, Plex said it was updating my library, but I didn’t pay attention to whether that triggered a scan. Perhaps the metadata refresh required a scan first in order to work?
FWIW, before running these new tests I had upgraded to the latest beta (1.27.0.5873).
Check your ‘Find Lyrics’ setting again. Did it get turned back on without your knowledge? It did for me (see the other post I just made).
I noticed my find lyrics option is turned back on also without me specifically turning it back on.
From what I can tell, when you turn that setting off Plex scans the library, and at some point during or after the scan the setting gets turned back on. Seems like a different bug than the one this thread is about (albeit oddly related).
Thanks, it’s a bug with how we display that setting. It does actually get disabled but will always show the checkbox as checked.
I’ve fixed that and will push it into an update.
Thanks for checking, really appreciate it!
Thanks for letting us know about that.
So is the crash caused by ‘Find Lyrics’ being on, and will that be fixed in an upcoming release?
A new build has just been pushed to beta which should hopefully resolve the issue with the lryics searches.
Please give it a go when you have a chance.
Thanks for the quick fix! How do we know ‘Find Lyrics’ is actually on if, due to that other bug, the setting appears to be on when it’s actually off? And if it’s off when still checked, how do we turn it on for real?
That bug was also fixed, so the setting should reflect the set value now.
Just did a successful metadata refresh with lyrics turned on in latest beta. Thanks!
Great! Will test now.
