I’ve been running Plex error free for many years. This morning I noticed a Server update was available. I installed it as I always do.

This is the first update to introduce bugs. So far I have run across 3 major ones, all showstoppers for me. Here’s the list.

  1. The web UI reports “Something went wrong” when clicking on either the Home icon or the Plex logo. I have to refresh the page to re-establish connection to the server and properly display the Home page.
  2. Matching video assets returns no matches.
  3. Posters for Movies transformed into wide background style images.

Here’s how I discovered the issues:

I do all my library additions, metadata edits, and settings changes using Safari via the web UI.

I added a new movie and I noticed the poster added to “Recently Added Movies” on the Home screen was blank - a black space. I clicked on the title and drilled into the details screen to choose “Match” from the bread crumbs button. It found no matches. I thought that was odd as it was a current film. I checked the TVDB and TMDB. Both databases had full info on the film. I then chose Match again, this time choosing Search Options and then Auto Match. In both cases “No matches found.” was returned.

I then moved the new movie out of the Movies library folder. I got the “Scanning Library” notifications as usual and the posterless film disappeared from the Home Screen. I moved it back to the Movies library folder, got the “Scanning Library” notifications, but this time not only did it not match, but it altered the posters of the entire Movies library changing them to wide background style images instead of tall posters. The posters on the Home screen all remained normal tall images except for the “Recently added Movies” section which displayed only wide background style images. I then choose the Movies library from the side menu and the whole library was transformed into wide background thumbnails. I clicked the checkerboard button and switched to Detail view. It displayed the expected list but with a wide thumbnail. I then switched back to Grid view and saw only wide thumbnails. All other libraries (TV, Music, etc.) display correct thumbnails - tall ones for TV and squares for Music.

I tried Fix Matching items in the TV library and got “No matches found.” I tried Fix Matching a Music item. It returned the expected list of found matches to choose from. I tried several more and got match lists for all of them. However, when I added four new albums, none of them actually matched. They were four albums from the same artist. When I chose “Match” and then the artist from the list, no metadata was imported.

It appears that matching any kind of media is not working.

I down graded my PMS to version 1.27.2.5929, but it fixed neither problem introduced by the 1.28.0.5999 update. I still can’t match video and movies still had wide thumbnails. None of these problems existed prior to this morning’s update.

I did manage to fix the movies poster issue by restoring the User Preferences and User Application Support files from a TimeMachine backup from last night. Matching video still returns nothing, but the Movies posters are again tall as they should be.

I hope matching gets fixed soon. I think 1.28 needed more cooking before general release.

Can you post your server logs? We might need you to upgrade again, and post your logs to see if your current logs dont have anything useful.

Not sure how useful these will be. I was tinkering all day, restoring Application Support and Preference files from TimeMachine. I also restored my database when I discovered that ALL my metadata was gone. The database restore did successfully bring back my metadata. In any case, the logs my show some weiredness, but hopefully will shed some light on what went wrong with the update.

I’m seeing a lot of plugin related errors. (7, Couldn't connect to server) and (Failed to connect to 127.0.0.1 port 60379: Connection refused) but not the corrupt database messages I was expecting.
